But its the first used vehicle i have purchased that i have absolutely no regrets about.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and say I am impressed with the site. Can't beleive the amount of invaluable info here. I purchased my 1st porsche the day after Christmas as a gift to myself. Got a 2000 911 Carerra 996 cab. Artic Silver with partial leather seats in black , 18" wheels, 6 spd manual. I took a wrong turn stopping on a long drive home seeing my mother, and found myself on auto drive. Test drove a benz, then saw the car. Walked up to it and had the salesman tell me I would never fit my 6'4 frame into the vehicle . I commended him on his sales skills and asked him to get the keys. After the test drive where I scared him to the point he grabbed my shirt sleeve, I had to have the car.
20 minutes later, I was still shaking. Pulled the trigger and never looked back. The 3 year bumper to bumper warranty was the main reason I got it. Probably paid a little too much, but don't have buyers remorse as I cant stop driving it and wiping the drool off the seat. Its been 75 degrees for the last week so the cab is perfect.
I have a few pics I will put up so I dont get hammered here. Thanks again for a great forum with alot of good guys generous with info. Hope I can contribute someday , but for now I'm going to be a sponge for info.
Best regards,
Lou
Welcome. Nice looking cab - I especially like the Sport Technos.
BTW - I'm also 6'4". I've never had an issue fitting into the 996. Getting in and out isn't always graceful, but once I'm in, it's great!
Chuck the pumpkins!
Nice car though...
Did you know they make an IV adapter? It mixes motor oil into your blood and turns it into PURE ADRENALIN!
IMO, not a good idea to post pics of your gunsafe on the internet.
Nice car, enjoy her in great health.
+1 on 6'4" easily fitting in the car, although with a helmet on my head does touch the ceiling at times. Although, you wouldn't have that problem with the top down.
Thanks for the warm welcome .
Ok, I'm a newbie to the porsche and this forum. Does check the pumpkins mean the differential?
I have never been married , was selling the washer dryer . Suddenly I have alot more options with the ladies. I take them in my dirty diesel truck to see how they act before they can ride in the car. Gotta love materialistic socal chicks. They think the car is worth big $. I could care less what anyone thinks, its the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel.
I dont care if any one see's my gun safe, there are more guns in the house if they want to test my security plan. The Marine Corps taught me some neat tricks.
I am already itching to make some mods. The stereo sucks for starters.
Thanks again for the props. The car has some miles on it at 68k, but I had it gone through and its mechanically excellent and the last guy appears to have taken care of it. The RMS thing has me concerned , but with a full warranty I should probably try and push it so I can get a new mill before the warranty expires.
I think i get it now. Are the pumpkins the orange side marker lights? Damn , i just went the dealer for some touch up paint. Does everyone get rock chips on the hood?
Lou,
Welcome aboard. Did it come with the hardtop? Curious that the plugs would be out if not. Check all of the nooks for the plugs before you buy new ones. I found mine in the seat back pockets.
Welcome aboard Lou. Your 2000 C2 Cab is beautiful. I have 2000 C2 Cab triple black. It makes a pair if park side by side with your car.
I agree with you that the stereo is bad, but in other hand the best sound is from behind the car as it accelerates. I noticed that your Cab has cup holders and mine doesn't. By the way, do you think the front license plate should stay?
Have you ever heard of Car-N-Coffee in Irvine? Lot of Porsche cars and other exotic cars. The show is on every Saturday morning (early morning). May be one day we will hook up and drive our Porsche to there. I live in Corona.
Nghia
Semper Fi my friend!
I'm changing my oil on Sunday. You're welcome to come by and we can go over basic maint. on the car. PM me if you have time.
Aaron
Hola from Long Beach, CA.
I always wanted a Porsche and now I have one. I rule!
Flew out to Arizona and drove it home day after Thanksgiving.
2004 C2, Aero Kit, PASM, Sports Exhaust, HRE 18's and the best color Lapis Blue Metallic!
It was a great decision and I am really enjoying it
for the warm welcome. Semper Fi to all the Marines.
I talked the dealer out of a hardtop from another car, but it was a slightly different silver. Its at the body shop getting painted now. I will search for the plugs as I continue to detail the car with q-tips at night.
Nghia I removed the front plate tonight. Cops in my town are sticklers though. They drive by and look at me like "we're watching you boy" . I havent heard of Car n Coffee, but i like both of them. I will contact you in the future and we'll go check it out.
Medtech I appreciate your generous offer. I am very interested in performing basic maintenance, and learning more about these fine cars. I am up to my butt in alligators at work, but i will pm you.
Hapich Man, you have a sweet ride there. I too like the Lapis blue metallic.
And finally, as I said previously, I bought my car on impulse after a wrong turn. But its the first used vehicle i have purchased that i have absolutely no regrets about. I never understood all the hype about these cars. Then I drove one.
Sounds good. I previously lived in Carlsbad, and go to SD often. Mostly to fish out of Pt Loma and MB. I met a guy yesterday who told me about the PCA and the course they set up at Quallcomm stadium. I would love to do that. Thanks for the welcome, we will hook up when the weather is nice. Which is 90% of the time.
Lou
Hapich, sweet looking Lapis 996! My '04 was also Lapis.... yes, I really did have one!
You need to put clear side markers on the car to replace those pumpkins.
Great cars guys. Congrats on your purchases!
Everybody mentions the pumpkins. I am curious about removing them. Is there something that replaces it or do you cover it or what?
Hate to keep bringing my intro to the top of the forum, but I a in a quandry. As stated previously , I added the 3yr/36k warranty when i purchased. Couldnt have pulled the trigger on any car with 68k on it without it. That gives me more miles than I will put on it. Here's the question. Its a transferrable warranty, and I love the car. I want to do some mods on it, but could see myself upgrading to a newer coupe someday. Is it worth tricking this cab out, or am I polishing a terd?
I have my own opinion and am very happy with the condition of the car, but I'm thinking resale someday. Dont want to fill the board with a bunch of what ifs , but its really got me thinking . Thanks in advance for any replies. Its finally raining in southern cal and due to dump for the whole week. I am jonesing to get that thing out , but i know myself too well, and hate to get it sideways and bend it up.
Post those drives up! Or at least let us know where to look. I haven't been on one since Ed Harrison put the Palomar Run together a couple of months ago - now that was fun!
Rudy
First, don't appologize, it's your thread
Second, it's not a terd
Third, I would say live with the car a bit and let the force guide you; you'll soon find out if you want to mod or upgrade, but you have that transferrable warranty and that will help should you choose the latter.
Fourth, depending on the level of modding that you want to do, a 996 might be just the ticket. Heavy modding would make the car harder to sell so if you start with a car that costs less, you stand to lose less.
I have a 996 cab but would prefer a coupe and so am looking to move on. I love my car but feel that doing exhaust or other would be throwing money away. But that's just me.
As I said, live with it and you will know. GL
Thanks again. I thought about the terd comment as I was typing it. Its just an expression I use to make people laugh. The car has more capability than I have ability to drive it. And I have been driving hard for a long time. I guess I will just enjoy it, and that happens every time I get in the thing. I can see this being a porsche owner thing becoming a life long passion.
I appreciate the input FFaust, I had'nt considered the point you made about modding and the recapture of the $ invested. Thats why I asked the question. Cant wait for the weather to break, so I can drive the car again.
I would drive your car for a while first as it is and get a feel for it before upgrading. Once you get the upgrade bug, then you can ask or search the forum for ideas. There are many people here, including me, who are very happy to help you spend money. Best value upgrades for your money are as follows and then it gets expensive:
Clear side markers
B&M short shift
Exhaust
Litronics if its MK1 because its just plug and play. Although you will not get the automatic leveler.
Suspension
Sways
Intake
headers
ECU flash
3 spoke steering wheel
Sport seats
Stereo
Wheels
aero kit and on and on....
Welcome and congrats on the car! I bought my first Porsche a little over a year ago and it is still utterly amazing to drive! Its great to see the Rennlist crew roll out the warm welcome - I'd love to be back in Cali with mine, someday....
Just got my clear sidemarkers, install and new pics pending!
