Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
Decided to archive my daily driver 99 c2 6sp.
Purchased the car 10/2019 with 75k. It now has 94k.
I drive the car year round here in MN. I dont necessarily encourage winter driving this car, but it can be done. Blizzaks get the job done.
My goal with the car is to retain its originality and come as close to what it may have felt like when it left the showroom. Secondary goal is to own one of the higher mileage 99s out there, without a rebuild. Ive got a ways to go...
I do all the maintenance. Im not a pro by any stretch and use all resources available including this forum (thank you all).
below is my list of DIY jobs performed over the past 1.5yrs, starting with most recent.
Items replaced / work performed;
clutch master cylinder (today)
clutch line bleed
rotors and pads
brake line flush/bleed
air filter
oil change (4 since purchased. Castrol 5w-40)
clutch pedal boost spring
aos bellows
oil filler tube
low temp thermostat
water pump
coolant tank
summer tires (nitto)
transmission fluid
alternator
aos
fuel filter
starter motor
Serpentine belt
Motor mounts
rear deck lid struts
ignition coils
soark plugs
cabin air filter
On deck...clutch.
Removed ignition switch today with intention to replace. Ordered the wrong part number. Correct pn is 4B0 905 849. $13 for correct Febi replacement from Pelican.
Follow Bentley manual for removal and use this flathead screwdriver (pic) to remove the switch retaining screws. Remove lower retaining screw from underneath (on back).
Not generally a cosmetics guy. But I couldnt pass up these BBS wheels. No spacers. Came off a Boxster S. 7.5 x 9. I realize the correct 996 version was a little wider. But, Im satisfied.
Installed LN spin-on oil filter adapter. Also removed sump plate to inspect for debris. Found a few plastic bits. No metal. Old filter showed no sign of metal flakes. One of the sump plate bolts snapped. Extraction tools unable to remove. Had to drill and tap. 7.5ft/lbs to torque new torx bolts. Used Loctite si 5900 flange sealant. Took about 10.5qts of oil to top off.
Plastic bits found inside sump plate. Thinking chain guide/rail bits.
Yeah now I have 96,000 on mine. Good suggestion would be to spray CRC GDI or sea foam to clean for carbon deposits. We did mine yesterday. Whats the Production date on Yours???
Yeah if I was driving it every day, I would probably sell my F150. Anyway my wife took me to brunch and I met the owner of this one 5 minutes from the house, Im thinking about buying a convertible.
Brian - nice work so far, and great looking car!
I picked up my C2 last Fall. I have a similar checklist of DIY work completed. We should connect sometime and compare notes. Im in Bloomington MN.
Im not brave enough to daily mine, but thats 100% because of the rusty effects of salted roads that Ive seen on my own cars. I can handle a RWD car on snowy roads! 🙂
What was originally planned as a clutch replacement quickly turned into a long list of while youre in there projects.
Just finished replacing RMS and IMSB (LN IMSB Dual Row Retrofit). Original dual row was fine - no stud wobble. Bore showed no signs of distress. The job is pretty straightforward once the 3 tensioners are removed and the cams are locked. The LN IMSB tool kit is a must! I also picked up a tool to install the RMS to the proper depth. The right tools makes everything so much easier.
Think LN will give me a sticker if I send the original back along with pics for evidence? Probably not, but Ill reach out anyway. If not, Ill just hang on to the original as evidence.

Was able to line up the transaxle to the crank and finger tight bell housing bolts this morning. Im surprised how easily I was able to insert the trans main shaft. That said, the AGA engine support tool is worth its weight in gold. The ability to make micro height adjustments to the front of the motor with this tool is a huge time saver. I did not have the tool when I removed the transaxle and wish I did.
Another while youre in there job was the transmission mount. I decided to pony up and buy the AGA mount removal/install tool. Im glad I did. I cant imagine attempting to press an oem mount without. In hindsight I would have purchased the AGA mount that has a 4mm recess that ensures the mount goes in straight. It took several attempts to get that oem mount perfectly aligned.
Got the three new chain tensioners installed.
Oh, in case anyone decides to purchase a new pivot fork when doing a clutch job attached is a pic of the updated fork with the updated spring and seal (the seal is not part of the original design). That seal and spring had me baffled for the longest time. There arent any instructions out there that explain how the superseded pivot fork setup works. Hope someone finds this useful.
Finished biggest job yet!
Replaced;
DMF (Luk)
Friction Disk (Sachs)
Pressure Plate (Sachs)
Clutch release bearing
Pilot bearing
Clutch Release Lever
RMS
Clutch Retaining Spring and Sealing Washer
Guide Tube
Ball pin
Main shaft seal
Pivot for clutch release
Clutch Slave Cylinder
3 Cam chain tensioners
Transmission mount
and finally.IMSB (LNE)
I feel incredible and a greater sense of connection with my car. I am blessed to be able to live my childhood dream of working on a project car. My dad would be proud.
Awesome man ! those are the types of jobs that for me, once completed, really give me confidence to push my comfort level on what I
think
I can do.
Congrats - hope you get it out for a nice rip and enjoy the fruits of all that labor !
