Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Same thing: I replaced my brakes and need to go back, pull the rotor and caliper, see whats up.

Suggestion
My car was doing a bit of creaking when I would let the jack down in that rear wheel, so maybe they can check the torque on the wheel bearing.

Yes, I have had the shop who did the earlier work check it out, but they did not have any idea why it would be doing what it's doing and along with other concerns I have of this shop, I finally decided I needed to work with the shop our club has recommended all along.
Recommend by our porsche club will hopefully let me know

I feel something didn't get put back correctly...but I guess next Thursday at the new shop I am going to that is highly recommended by our Porsche Club will hopefully let me know.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone ever experienced some creaking under the car - the noise is there when I start out in first gear and it seems to be consistently noisy as I drive along - no matter hitting a bump or not - it's almost as if something is not bolted down to the body of the car.
It's a 1999 Porsche 911 Carerra - and I haven't found anyone that can figure it out.
Any ideas?
Its a 22 year old car.... it could be any of the following.
Motor mounts, trans mount, any of the suspension links and strut top mounts. Im sure it can be a dozen other things, maybe video the sound and post it?
Thanks for your reply, yes, it is 22 years old now, but a few of us have found it strange that it's doing this after I had some work done on it - namely, the AOS. Again, just feels like something did not get put back together properly following the work. Good idea to video it. I am having it further investigated next week - we shall see.
Well, I have a ridiculous noise from my car too. Same thing: I replaced my brakes and need to go back, pull the rotor and caliper, see whats up.

Oh, wow, that's a noise, alright. Once I had a Volvo that made a similar noise, turned out it was part of the brake pad that came apart and was dragging around. As for my noise, I should have mentioned, it sounds like a baseball bobbling around under the car. It's not that loud, but enough to make me wonder what's happening and also to get it fixed if it's something horrible. Good luck with yours! Thanks for the reply!
Yes, had it repaired at a shop, along with a new clutch and updating the IMS. I feel something didn't get put back correctly...but I guess next Thursday at the new shop I am going to that is highly recommended by our Porsche Club will hopefully let me know.
Any reason why you dont want to take it back to the shop that did the AOS? Not to blame them, but if it wasnt making that noise before, perhaps they can investigate or may have an idea, especially if they cannot find their 1/4 air wrench.
Ha! Yes, I have had the shop who did the earlier work check it out, but they did not have any idea why it would be doing what it's doing and along with other concerns I have of this shop, I finally decided I needed to work with the shop our club has recommended all along. If something is found, as in that wrench, I will be revisiting the shop - or any other issue that they may have caused, we will have a chat.
How;s your noise resolution coming along?
I understand where you are coming from. I switched shops and paid extra to fix an issue a previous shop was supposed to fix, but I didnt want to give them any more business
As for my noise, I plan to pull the wheel and rotor off today. Will keep you posted!
I just replaced all those components a few weeks ago, and the noise is still present! The noise was just starting before the brake job. Ill double check all these areas. Maybe I should have cleaned the inside components, such as parking brake items instead of throwing the rotor on and calling it a day.
Quick update on my car. Midwest Eurosport in Bensenville, IL took the rear wheels off, rotors, calipers, wheel bearing and half shaft out. They saw no wear or issue, put everything back and re-torqued to factory spec, and the noise is gone. They cannot reproduce it. The only other thing they did was spray the brake with anti-squeal.
The best part is they only charged me $185!
Ill report back if the issue creeps (creaks) back up again.
EDIT: drove home and the car is perfect now. Im guessing the wheel bearing was loose. Id have checked myself, but that axle nut could be 32mm in size, and requires 340ft/lbs of torque, and Im absolutely certain I dont have a torque wrench that can do THAT.
Kim, how about your car?
Awesome that you got that issue corrected and it's now gone!!!! Yay! P.S.. loved the pun of creaking!
As for me, still checking, the car was looked at this morning and they are now thinking it's one of the control arms. Will be working on that first thing in the morning. They say everything else seems to check out, so we shall see. I just hope they figure it out soon and I can get her back out on the road! I will update when we finally determine what's going on.
Well, I am awaiting word this morning on the control arm suspicion...so we shall see. As for the intro post, where does one go to do that? I added some photos of my ride, but don't see where to go on and on about it all on a intro post....hmmmm.....so, is your ride staying quiet and no more scraping?
Thanks for the reply, that came up in discussion yesterday, so I will make sure they fully investigate that today and go ahead and replace!
I can't wait to get this figure out....
I would just post in the 996 forum since you have one, but there is also a New Member Welcome Area as well. I dont think that area always gets as much action though
So far, my ride is staying quiet. Theres still the occasional very faint sound, but its almost non existent. If it comes back later on, perhaps there will be more evidence of a stuck caliper or something else.
So glad your ride is staying quiet!!! As for me, still noisy...dang. replaced the sway bar link and inspected the
control arm bushings, ball joints. Also, checked for worn out struts. All are good....so they state it's just fine to drive the car, but if something changes or if the noise becomes different or more noisy, give 'em a call.
We shall see - thanks for the tips on posting being a newbie and all. I have some photos posted for now, will get to that other stuff soon.
My car was doing a bit of creaking when I would let the jack down in that rear wheel, so maybe they can check the torque on the wheel bearing. I think it needs 340 ft/lbs of torque.
