Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

And then....I leave it overnight...battery still charged...but zilch, nothing that worked yesterday works.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all Uk based here.I bought a 2003 911 Turbo Cab (manual) in need of restoration (missing engine and trans for starters). Today's problem I put a new battery in it (it came without) and I get no reaction at all from the car. Am I wrong to assume I'd get some electrical response (without engine, trans, ecu, starter motor, alternator...)? Any help appreciated Regards K

POST 2Original post

996 is canbus so the ECU controls everything, or just about. Without an ECU doubt anything would come to life except maybe cigarette lighter since it allows battery to charge from it. You might have more luck on the turbo 996 forum. Here is some reading Does the 996tt have a CAN-bus? - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums

POST 3Original post

You should get some response from it, the front fuse box gets power from the battery, and lots of items are directly connected to that.

POST 4Original post

Dumb question but its been an issue before. Did u put the battery in bsckward? Both wires r black but the positive is on the passenger (right) side.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Even dumber...turns out the battery was not charged. I was told it was charged Since I am restoring a car with a few issues and this was the first time I was putting a battery in since I got it...I just naturally assumed it was a car problem silly me

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmmm so I charge up the battery. Hook it up...nothing Playing with connector....and notice the indicator flash. Everything is alive...abs/psm fail messages( I assume this means i still have an ecu - it seems a faff to actually see it in a cab), dash, windows and doors....remote control...yay And then....I leave it overnight...battery still charged...but zilch, nothing that worked yesterday works. no amount of wigging, cleaning connectors... Multimeter coming tomorrow....but scratching head between Notable things Passenger door wasnt closed fully. Pushed it to close...window down a bit...won't open now. I assume central locking is on. Only passenger door opens on key

POST 7Original post

I would guess the battery is dead, no multimeter needed. This battery has probably been sitting uncharged for a while, they dont like that. Is this a theft recovery? If so I would suspect that the ecu is there, as it is behind the rear seat under the subwoofer. I would also suggest that you make sure the battery cable that runs to the starter is not or cannot touch the frame if its still there. As well as making sure if it has cut wires in the engine harness that they are isolated.
