Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

check if there is nothing blocking the rails, like a coin or something' sometimes you think big and in the end is something small, being a car dealer this happened to me many times, and checking for a rail block, saved me money against changing motors

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Now I've done it. As mentioned in an earlier thead, I couldn't get the key to my "new" 996 to remember my seat setting and that the motors were having troubles, blowing a fuse.
Well, this time I checked the fuse. It looked ok, but I replaced it anyways. The seat is DEAD. Does this mean the seat motors are toast, or is there something else I can check?
Has anyone ever replaced the motors? Skill required for DIY? Cost?
Thanks,
Joe

good luck!
Do any of the power functions (up/down/seat back recline/move forward/move back) work? Are the relay switches connected under the seat. Maybe you have a bad relay?
I have no movement in the seat. I'm hoping to take the seat out tomorrow and have a look around. Are the relays a generic or porshce-specific part?
Thanks for the input.
Update...
I took the car into Auto Haus as I just don't have time to look at it.
After pulling the seat, it looks like the previous owner worked on the car and butchered the wiring harness under the seat, and to the programming buttons. The tech has cleaned up the wiring under the seat and is working on the wiring with the programming buttons.
So far, probably 4 hours of work at $135/hour, I hate electrical issues
Hopefully this also resolves the issue of seat moving to a crazy position when remotely unlocking the car with the key.
One thing that was perplexing was a module attached to the front bottom of the seat. When moving the seat all the way down, this module gets squished between the seat and floor, causing significant flex (sorry no camera for pic). Is this reason for concern, or has it been designed to flex like that?
Thanks,
Joe
I would have sold you a brand new seat rail with all the motors, complete with the switch...never installed for $150. I bought it way back when and never installedit.
Car's back working like a charm.
1) Butchered wiring under seat binding the movement, fixed.
2) Electrical shorting in the wiring for memory buttons, fixed.
3) Seat memory cleared and reset with diagnostic equipment.
They ended up charging me for 3 hours labour, less 15% for PCA membership = $371 after taxes.
All in all, I'm happy with the outcome.
