The rear wing can use some detailing but from 5 feet away it look perfect.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Could that be a little subconscious slip about the condition of the car? Just askin'.
for me i can't stand cars where the interior looks used without care - my c4s is absolutely mint and will be mint when mine comes time to sell.
this one looks like it's been armor alled to death inside. check the leather condition of the seats esp. no thx.
Not understanding the questioning on the condition of the car? It seems to be in great shape from the pictures? From the milage it doesn't seem to be a garage queen. I called and left a message, I'll let you guys know the results.
Just spoke with him, hell of a nice guy. He is a fanatic about Porsches, he actually has a old Carrera in the garage also. I was right it is not a garage queen, it's a daily driver. He said that is the reason for selling, "it's too nice of a car to be using as a daily driver." He now wants either a 951S or 968.
OK so the good news:
He just had it at the dealer and he it gone over. They installed a new RMS, trans undertray and frt chin spoiler. Everything else is perfect.
Bad news:
He gave the car 9 out of 10 in cosmetics, because the rear wing is aftermarket, the rest of the areo package is OEM. The car can also use a good buffing. The interior is perfect. The car now has 67000mi.
I told him about him misspelling and he laughed. He didn't what joy riders coming around. Now, he said the biggest problem are dealers wanting to sell the car for him, so he's updating his add. He also sounds desperite since he had the add running for 3 months.
Not even close. The front is $1K and the skirts are $750 OEM (I have purchased both from a dealer so I can report those prices. If you pay more then you are getting ripped off. The wing is aftermarket so I assume he spent about $3K total for the entire setup. Not sure where you get your $7K number from.
As for the car. Seems nice but overpriced. And to say the car is "too nice" to use as a daily driver. Are you f'in kidding? That is the entire reason these cars are built. They are not museum pieces. Ferdinand would not be happy if you told him that you didn't want to drive it because it is too nice.
Dell,
Kit is $5K from Suncoast. It needs paint and installation? Imagine 7K installed? Dunno if the rear winglets come with the aero kit also. Those are $340 each.
You said 7K in "parts" not 5K plus 2K to paint.
Besides, the OP asked about that particular car and it has an AFTERMARKET spoiler and factory front and sides. So, probably 3K total.
As a price point for paint and parts. Porsche pieces.....Front $1K, sides $650, paint all 3 $700. Hope that helps.
yup to add those aero pieces on your own is PRICEY - paint and labor baby...but to add that up and stick it onto the asking price is not realistic.
the pricing seems fair, but definitely negotiable.
I'm going to take a look at the car this weekend. What do you think is a fair price? I've looked around and that seems to be the nicest and cheapest areo car. All others are in the upper 30's. All the cars in the low 30's are bone stock and are tips.
Aftermarket spoiler info was posted one minute before my OEM quote.
Anyone know how much Aero package option costs originally?
I paid $34.8K for my aero 00 C2 with 66K two months ago from a fellow rennlister.
Mods/options are:
litronics
PSE
aftermarket stereo
short shifter
These cars are made to be driven. I have 71K miles now. The more you drive it, the better it runs actually. My engine is the driest my mechanic has ever seen; incl RMS. I happen to like the GT trim on the rear bumper because it gives the NB a wider stance look.
Personally, IMHO the wheels are the nicest part of the car. The "thing" on the bumpers are also part of the aero kit. I've seen most don't have them, but it is part of the "complete" package.
Never offer asking price, drop down a couple. To me a good deal is defined as "getting what you want for what your willing to pay." There will always be a cheaper one, a cleaner one, a newer one down the road. Set how much you are willing to spend and what you want in return and you will never have remorse........
Get a 2002. The price difference doesn't justify going to the pre-face lift 996. Wait until you have the cash to get the 2nd newest 911. There are tons of 20-40K mile garage queens around, Porsche made a boat load of 996 and Boxsters and Cayennes in the last 7 years. No need to pay an "ok" price for a daily driver with a high mileage. Particularly in South Florida where there are too many Pcars. I'd say the seller is getting out at jsut the right time.
That 996 is $30K tops in this market area, the most common 996.
i'd agree with all that. unless you get a great price (closer to $30k), i'd look past pre-facelift 996's with high mileage. and i just don't see an aerokit adding considerable value (can't go on what it would cost yourself paying retail).
I agree with others who say get an '02 (unless that price comes down by at least $3 or $4 thousand). Having recently sold my car, I will tell you that pre '02 Porsches have taken a beating in depreciation. Also, it is not easy for a seller to find a real buyer who can come up with the cash for a luxury item, as the banks aren't going to finance an older car purchase with any user friendly interest rates, if at all. As the buyer, you have the most leverage.
In effect, it's worth what you're willing to pay for it. Realize that whether there is something about the car or the price/car combination, it's been sitting....no one else thought it was a great deal.
So, if you like it, offer $30-31K and see where that gets you. You're not trying to cheat him. If you bought it for the advertised price, you would have the same trouble selling it. While cars are not necessarily a "liquid investment" (actually, I walk away from any new car sales guy that talks about the car purchase as an investment.....why would you put money into something that's guaranteed to lose value?)..... an attractive car at a fair price will often sell in a short time.
Three months on the market implies that this is over-priced, or possibly the mods have made other people worry about how it has been driven. Good hunting.
I've been busy this week so I haven't had a chance to browse the forum. I did take a look at the car last weekend. I tell you it's a nice car, seems very well maintained as all his other Porsches. As he stated "it's a driver's car", this means it has a short options list. There's no fluff (manual seats, only 4 speaker system...). But it also means any mods done were for driver enhancement (Fab muffler, bigger wheels, rear wing...). I saw no issues with the int/ext. He was on the money when he gave the condition a 9. The rear wing can use some detailing but from 5 feet away it look perfect. Although I didn't notice it, he admitted that someone backed into the LH door in a parking lot. He bought a new door from the dealer and had it painted and installed, which was the same time he did the wing. He also still has the retractable wing he took off, so it can be changed out. Oh, someone asked, the wheels don't rub.
Bottom line, I asked what it the lowest he can go? He told me "Honestly, I can tell you $34K, but if you show up with cash in hand I can go lower". One good thing is he has the title of the car, so no dealing with banks. I believe the biggest drawback is it's milage.
Unfortunately, I turned out to be one of the joy riders he was trying to avoid. No way do I have $3?K to give for any car. But it seemed such a good deal I had to check it out. I haven't looked at any 996s in 6 months and I thought the going rate was $36k for basic and $42k for an areo.
What Riad ^ said, but he was WAY too polite! Why go through all of this if you have no hopes or intentions of buying it?
WTF??? - you have a 3 page thread where other Rennlisters have taken the time to give you their opinions and comments when all along you knew you coundn't afford or wouldn't be buying the car???
You may become the first Rennlister to be on my "Ignore List!"
@#$%^&*ing "newbies!"
yea, pretty lame, but still a worthwhile thread nonetheless because it references our current thinking on present '996 market prices and preferences for facelifted models.
