was taking the old one off (nice chip right in the middle of it and has been turning green, thank you chicago winter) and I got one nut off but couldnt get the other one to release. I lifted the emblem and found that the stem it was attached to had broken off. So the shield is off but one of the stems is still there and it spins with the nut when I turn it. I tried holding it down with a towel, tape, even a magnet, no dice. I have to imagine that this has happened to someone else. How do I get that sucker out of there?

since we are talking about Front Hood Emblems, Are the 997 Hood Emblems Diffrent? Coz i noticed the 07 or 08+ have the Emblem Enameld, i have been told they are Diffrent Size than 996... can someone confirm?

The new ones are ugly and cheap looking - I can confirm, spend the money on the better one. (Both avail at dealer and both fit both cars)

The one I ordered was "sealed" with enamel but really looks the same as the original. You really don't notice it until you run your hand over it and feel the difference. Buddy of mine has a black 996 and pushed the silver one but mine is gray and thought the gold looked better.

I ordered from Suncoast and ordered the one specified for the 2001 and it fit perfectly. I hope your swap goes smoother than mine.
