Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The drivers window works fine using the switch on the center console, so it's not the mechanism or the motor.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm a newbie here so hi to everyone on this forum. I don't have many problems on the 996 so I have only posted before on the 944 forum. Just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem before.
When I put the top down eveything works as it should. When putting the top back up, the drivers window does not close, everything else works as normal, but only the three other windows close. The drivers window works fine using the switch on the center console, so it's not the mechanism or the motor.
Did a search but pulled up lots of irrelevant stuff.
Thanks
Welcome to Rennlist and the 996 Forum.
You might want to try "retraining" the driver's window. Lower the window and contunue holding the window switch for 10 - 15 seconds after the window has completely lowered. Then raise the window and contunue holding the window switch for 10 - 15 seconds after the window has completely closed. That may or may not resolve your issue.
It is customary for "newbies" to tell us a little about their 996 and to post a couple of pics of it. BTW - we LOVE pics!
Again, Welcome!
Thanks guys, but did a retrain on all the windows then tried lowering and raising the top but the same thing happened. To recap:
1. Engine running top up and locked.
2. Press & hold 'top down' switch.
3. All four windows go down followed by the top.
4. Press and hold the 'top up' switch.
5. The top comes up followed by three windows (drivers remains down).
6. Operating the drivers window switch independantly and the window operates normally.
And for goto911 here is a picture of the beast. 1999 owned from new, 45,000 miles, only previous problem was the ignition switch. completely stock & in immaculate condition.
Your welcome gota911, not very flattering pics, were from outside the house while it was being built last year. I need to get the cars cleaned and take some really cool pics
