Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have a good quality cover that I've used only when the car was clean, yet the paint still has lots of small swirls from the cover coming on and off.
Leading evidence: 'Use only' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean yet the paint still has lots of small swirls' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
In many respects I think I would have been wiser to only use the cover right after a wash and before an extended period of non-use.

You can minimize this by using a duster before you put the cover on and keeping a good top coat on the clearcoat.

My advice would be minimal use of a good cover (eg only after washes).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So it's becoming apparent to me that a garage spot just isn't going to happen anytime soon. There just aren't any around in the places I want to live! Meanwhile, I still really want to keep my baby looking as nice as possible. Would a quality cover be helpful? Or are they just a false sense of protection? Is the OEM cover the best one to go with? -- I live in the Northeast and this is my daily driver, so winter is especially my concern.

A good quality car cover will definitely offer some protection. However, let's be honest: you say this is your daily driver... how long will you continue to put on the car cover every night and remove it every morning before laziness takes over? For me it will probably be a week, tops.
The other problem besides laziness is that putting an outdoor cover (not the most gentle interior fabric) on a dirty car will cause lots of swirl mark type scratches. You can minimize this by using a duster before you put the cover on and keeping a good top coat on the clearcoat. But, the daily road grime even during stretches of good weather will be enough to cause scratches.
The swirl marks might be the lesser of two evils if you are exposed to lots of fallout from acid rain, birds, salty atmosphere near the coast, etc.
My Boxster sat outside for about a year in a fairly dirty spot. I have a good quality cover that I've used only when the car was clean, yet the paint still has lots of small swirls from the cover coming on and off. In many respects I think I would have been wiser to only use the cover right after a wash and before an extended period of non-use.
My advice would be minimal use of a good cover (eg only after washes). Otherwise leave it uncovered with a healthy coating of wax / sealer.
befast,
are you near fairfield county CT? Maritime Aquarium offers gated multilevel parking. Beacuse I am a resident in South Norwalk, I have a spot for $40/month.
Its a great deal for gated secured parking.
Welcome, Im assuming your a new user since your name is unfamiliar. How about some pics of your car (a couple more if others have seen them) then I will give you a big outdoor parking secret!!!
Lol, secrets eh? ;-) Happy to post pictures! Attaching them here....

I am actually moving from Stamford to New Rochelle or Larchmont. Larchmont doesn't even allow street parking at *night*! So it has to be a municipal lot, most of their capacity literally being open train station lots. Yowza! In New Rochelle, it's a little better, but a garage spot would be so rare, and a regular spot most likely.

I have more, esp of the interior, which is pristine! Sadly, at my office any website that has anything to do with personal life is blocked so I can't grab them right now. Will post something in the eve!
OK, I feel like a slimeball because I dont have outdoor parking secrets. I just wanted to see pics of your car. My therapist says I have a problem with manipulation...... Shes right!
Perhaps someone lives in the area and just has some tips on finding parking around New Rochelle, Larchmont? Or perhaps recommendatinos on what product to treat the exterior of the car with for maximal protection?
New Rochelle and Larchmont is a very tough place for parking. Street parking will suck because you will get buried by snow plow in the winter. Will you be driving it during the winter? The aero cab looks very nice.
I protect my car by layering it with many coats of wax during the summer. This will "cure" the coating to protect the paint for all weather especially winter.
