Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought a set for $25 that were burnt - tried for 6 months to find a lens to replace it.... sold the lights as burnt -
check what bulbs are in there, after market (bright bulbs) look great but cause that burning.
the only thing i could figure was there is a thread on 6speed where you bake the entire headlight at about 150 for 10-20 minutes and then are able to remove the front outter clear piece to access the inside - IF you could find a wrecked car with bad headlights but good lens, you MIGHT be able to swap them.. then there is a re-gluing step with some sort of RTV or silicone...
for the most part, its a PITA and replacement though expensive is about the only option
hmmmm.. Ill see if he passes them on State inspection. if he does, I will take my time and find the right bargian. If not may be forced to buy new ones.
Oh my $500 each USED.... Hmm I love these searches... He's going to HAVE to pass it this year with my promise to have them fixed by next year. I have to get those bulbs replaced ASAP before I have more damage.
yea, I have had 4 sets of headlights..... the ambers are not as desirable and can be had for $100 ea or less... The last set of clear I bought I paid $400 for both and was stoked because that was a great deal and they are in awesome shape.
currently I dont have any "extras" but my search took a year or more and several tries - upgrade to Lits (about $1100 or so) if you can........I almost did but then found the ones I have now.... Not an easy or cheap part to replace.
keep in mind if you have the time and interest........... the old ones are not garbage, someone on ebay will give you something for them (maybe $100-200 for the pair) you can deduct that from the cost of your replacements IF you have the desire to sell the old ones............. if not mail them to me
They're pretty expensive, but there is a Litronic retrofit for the early cars. I did this to mine. Was very happy with how it freshened up the car, especially combined with the clear side markers. FWIW.
