Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just Kidding guys, lower your weapons I'm just trying to have a bit of fun here, sorry for the wasted post. Have a great day and enjoy your Porsches (real or not!!!)

POST 2Original post

My understanding is that they are carved from solid ingots of stainless steel by Prussian virgins using design specifications translated from documents found in the Arc of the Covenant. They also have shorter oil change intervals.

POST 4Original post

Because superiority is not judged by tangible performance but rather overall maintenance costs.

POST 5Original post

Cuz they're built like vaults - good enough to hold the Queen's jewels.

POST 6Original post

....by elves who drink artesian water and wear satin slippers.

POST 8Original post

Because they are the only "real" Porsche's. They also go "thunk" when you close the door. There you have it.

POST 9Original post

I heard that everytime the factory rolled out a 993, another angel got their wings. . .

POST 10Original post

I just thank God that I bought one new. Otherwise, after reading about how wonderful the 993 is, I would have been tempted to pay the outrageous prices that many sellers of 993s are asking.

POST 11Original post

I would think the 993 guys would be glad that Porsche came out with the inferior 996. Withouth the 996, how would the 993 guys know that their car is superior??? If the 996 was as good as the 993, the 993 would just be a regular, garden variety, average 911.

POST 12Original post

Every generation of 911 is better then the previous. Each time they come out with a new model, it is better, simply amzing. I can't wait for the 998!

POST 13Original post

I think the 998 and every model after it, like the 996's and 997's, will be testaments to the greatness of the 993's. In fact, isn't true that all 996 and 997 cars had to bow before the 993 statue before leaving the factory?

POST 15Original post

The 993 reminds me of the E46 3 series. Not in the way you're thinking, but in the way that many feel like those respective models were the pinnacle of the series design to which all others will fail to reach. I love all Porsches, and I fall into the category of thinking each new model is better than the last. I would always take the latest model for my personal use.

POST 16Original post

and the 993's bow to the 73 RS...........and the 73 RS to the '73 S. Why would they be testimates to the greatness of the 993? The latest and greatest is always better. You always have to go to the track for the real answer. That's why the racing teams always want Porsches latest 911. You don't see still racing 10 year old technology do you? besides, how can a car with a squeeky window be the be the greatest. Yes the 993 was great but not the greatest.

POST 17Original post

Sorry, I must respectively disagree. The 993 is the greatest of all times. If you don't believe me, just ask any 993 owner and they'll tell you.

POST 18Original post

The greatness of 993s is as unquestionably true as the presence of WMDs in Iraq. 993s are so great that they don't roll on wheels, but they hovver an inch above the ground, because touching the ground is what common cars do.

POST 19Original post

Of course they will...... My point was on a more technological, racing and driving standpoint. Like with race cars, the new F1 cars are superior then older ones, and the new Audi R10 blows away the 3 year old version. The new GT3 RSR has more technology then a GT1 etc. It is like comparing a 997 twin turbo to a 930. Nostalgia wise of course the 930 is better, but I mean come on, the better car? Anyway, this is all subjective, I'm done.

POST 20Original post

The Cab top on the 993 takes 14 hours to hand stitch by a few selected skilled german virgins.

POST 21Original post

This reminds me of one of my favourite Rennlist posts ever: "Originally Posted by riad As far as I know they are made by hand on a small mountain top in Germany. After each one is built they ring a giant bell on top of the mountain and pull it down by donkey to the local village where they celebrate all through the night with dance, song and plenty o' stein filled with hops. After the festivities a local priest blesses each one on its journey to it's new home, and it's loaded into a giant sheepskin lined case and sent to America for a new start. I believe this whole process takes about a year for each car... I'm trying to verify this."

POST 22Original post

The 993 is God's own chariot... A metal steed forged in the foundry at Mount Olympus out of the captured idols of a thousand kindgoms.

POST 23Original post

The 993 is an evolution of the VW Bug, the 996 a congener of the Carrera GT - I prefer the GT over the Bug despite the aircooled sound

POST 24Original post

The 993 is sooo far superior to all other Porsches because I read it here on Rennlist. I believe that everything I read on the internet is true.

POST 25Original post

The 993 must be the greatest Porsche of all time. Otherwise how could one explain the great 993 Monument and Wishing Fountain located in downtown Stuttgart, where the citizenry honors the 993 with flowers, gifts, and an occasional sacrificial lamb, and local schoolchildren toss their coins into the fountain, placing their wishes that they too may someday be priviledged enough to own the ultimate Porsche of all time, past, present, and future.

POST 26Original post

The 993 is so great that many Ferrari owners have crashed their Enzo's while admiring one pass by.

POST 27Original post

I'm sure the 356 owners wailed and bemoaned and denigrated the new, posh 356A. On the other hand, newer is not ALWAYS better, and the 993 will be one of several iconic Porsches. The best ever? Probably not. A great car? Indeed. 996s and 997s have their own flashes of greatness and a few flaws. The point is we all get the one that suits US, and then we feel obligated to defend our choices. I'm just glad we have such choices and great cars to choose among. Enjoy your fine cars gentlemen. I know I do.

POST 28Original post

Gentleman, consider the following facts: 1) As members of this board have pointed out numerous times, the 993 is worth more than the 996. 2) If you're reading this, most likely you own a 996 Therefore: We're driving 996's because we can't afford 993's. We're just a bunch of pathetic, jealous, envious, sour losers hating on the 993 guys.

POST 29Original post

Psst, hey pal.... The 994 is even better than the 993. Never heard of it? That's because only a handful of these cars were ever made. I've got one that I'll let go for cheap. Please send your cashier's check for $100,000 to: LiveNupeScams 123 Rip-Off Lane Foolsville, CA 90048 These cars normally go for $1,000,000 or more. I'm letting you have this great deal because you're one of my beloved fellow Rennlist brethren.

POST 30Original post

I'm pretty sure Shakespeare was cruisin in a 993...he passed it down to MacBeth on the opening day of the play as a gesture of thanks and good will. " All Hail Macbeth!!! " That's what all the commoners would yell when Macbeth would cruise by in his 993. What a trendsetter he was. J

POST 32Original post

Actually it's the 986 Boxster that is the best Porsche of all-time, or at least the best looking Porsche of all-time. That's how Porsche convinced suckers to fork over an additional 20 to 30 large for the 986 copy called a 996.

POST 33Original post

like the old Porsche ad use to say... "It's like having children, you cant understand until you have one of your own"... http://coochas.com/porsche/Resources...0Evolution.wmv http://coochas.com/porsche/Resources...ning(1995).wmv

POST 34Original post

I'm impressed....not one really nasty remark. Maybe there really is a place for all of us in Porsche heaven

POST 35Original post

Sigh, somehow I always feel disrespected and misunderstood by 996 owners as if I was one of the Geiko cavemen.

POST 36Original post

Should read that the Ferrari owners crashed their Enzos because they keep admiring the 993 from their rear view mirror they have to keep their eyes on the road ahead to prevent future mishaps

POST 37Original post

996 owners not providing the respect you so richly deserve for owning a 993? 996 owners are the most stupid, uneducated Porsche owners in history (they don't know what a 959 is, much less a 956), so their insubordinate lack of respect shouldn't bother you. Obviously, they're just ignorant.

POST 38Original post

I don't think they are ignorant, they are just jealous. Some place rings and masks around the headlights to make them look more like the true Porsche that the 993 is. Heck, I've seen some that go to the extreme of placing "93" badges on their doors as to confuse everyone, including themselves, into believing they are driving a 993 and not a 996.

POST 39Original post

I never get tired of those videos. I think this parts sums it all up: "(The 993) It wasn't something created to be something to everyone, but everything to someone"

POST 40Original post

That's just a meager (and somewhat abbreviated) display of my worship of the 993 and my respect for and admiration of each and every 993 owner! 993 owners give us all something to aspire to! I know each and every one of us hope to some day be fortunate enough to own the 993, Mother Of All Porsches so that we too can be admired by owners of lesser Porsches!

POST 43Original post

And as we owners of lesser Porsches now realize, (due to 993 owner's efforts to educate us), this sentiment could only possibly be applied to the Supreme Porsche 993! No owner of any other Porsche should ever sense such satisfaction from their inferior 911s!

POST 44Original post

Shame that server space is taken up by crap like this thread and my post for that matter. Sorry but I just had to.

POST 45Original post

That was below the belt. It is funny, my AUTOMATIC 996 will beat a 6spd 993 in any motorsport. Imagine once I get a 6spd 996 what will happen, haha

POST 46Original post

That's a good one! I think I really miss the work-out operating a 993 top, having a 996. And the looks of the top - real old world charme!

POST 47Original post

Yes...and your post, just proves my point. Keep dreaming and one day you too can own a 993 Cab.

POST 48Original post

What workout? Is the auto top 996 button softer than the auto top 993 button? I'm sure you get your workout taking that wannabe coupe hard top on and off everytime.

POST 49Original post

I think we need to show some respect for what air cooled engine technology has contributed to the human experience. This crossed my mind as I was firing up my weed wacker.

POST 50Original post

Yeahhh...mybe one day when I'll turn 90 and doesn't have strengh enough to steer fast cars. Nice antique you got there

POST 51Original post

gotta admit: that's pretty darn funny ( lots of funny posts in this thread ) But, I am pretty sure my air-cooled 911s are four strokes; not two strokes. If you have a four stroke weed-wacker- please forgive me) How Porsche made their first water cooled flat six to weigh as little as it does, make the horsepower it does, and cost as litle as it does - is testament to their engineering prowess. Let the evolution continue......... max

POST 52Original post

Oh I see you go "naked" without the boat cover over the opened top! That's not good - I guess your owners manual tells you different!

POST 54Original post

Of course, the 993s get admitted first in Porsche heaven, with the 996's being the subordinates.

POST 55Original post

Thanks, proud of my antique. You too can have one...and I know you WANT one. When I turn 90, I'll plan to get a big Lexus or a 996. I hear they are very comfy and plush.

POST 56Original post

I rather have a boat cover that a boat over my head!

POST 57Original post

OK, you made me change my avatar cabrio993 no boat anymore. But now back to your boat cover - how long does it take you again to properly open and store your soft top under the cover - 5 minutes?

POST 58Original post

Sorry dude! Didn't mean to do that. But you got to admit that your car looks 100% better without that hard top that you had on the avatar. That thing looked so top heavy, like it was about to flip over on your next turn. Nice unique color BTW. I rarely use the top cover. I don't drive with the top down if I'm going on the Hwy. So, when I put it down, is when I'm driving around town at speeds which won't do any harm to the liner. The top takes about 30 seconds to put up or down.... My liner was replaced about 3 years ago and still looks brand new. I'll buy a new $200 liner 7 years down the road if it starts to look bad.

POST 59Original post

I fully expect at some point the 993 will cure cancer.

POST 60Original post

In the beggining God created the air-cooled engine, and it was good. On the second day he created the 993 chasis, and it too was good. And the engine and the chasis roamed freely and happily through the garden together, eating up the twisties and shooting down the straightwasys, and it was good. Then appeared Satan. And using his foul evil influence the water cooled engine was created, and it was bad. Very bad. But not being happy with his desecration Satin went further. And he then created the 996 platform, and it was bad. Very bad. And amongst the 993 faithful there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. And God doth strike down the the 996 with RMS issues and mass production. But Satin's creation would not go away so easily and thus the war between good and evil persists today.

POST 61Original post

See, now, this biblical thing is starting to make sense. When I sold my BMW, my wife turned around to look at it one last time and turned into a pillar of salt.

POST 62Original post

Well said 03Targa! Isn't it funny that the 996 is followed by evolutions (997) whereas the 993 was the last one of its kind? However, as god said; one day there shall come a redeemer and everything will be good in holy 993 land

POST 63Original post

You will all repent one day....who made you go out and buy water cooled RMS infected boxster looking cars? Was it...Could it be...SSssssayyten?

POST 64Original post

Is that because "a big Lexus" weighs about the same as a 993 cab? Or....is that because you want to upgrade to something with a little bit stiffer chassis?

POST 65Original post

No, is because when I'm 90... I would like to have some wood interior in my car with lots of shinny buttons, some really soft suspension so I can cruise around, one finger light steering for easy parking, automatic climate control, wide seats for my big aging ***, dumb-proof traction control for my slow responses, Japanese engineering and construction, and "grown-up" styling to appeal to my lady friends at the senior citizen club, and the Lexus and 996 would both fit my needs then.

POST 66Original post

Wouldn't you want something old and dated as well to remember (and look at) when you're 90? So a 993 would be perfect. You might feel weird in a 996, as it might be too modern for you.

POST 67Original post

Off course!!! Who said I'll be selling the 993? It's a classic, a collector's car. That's a keeper...I'll never sell it. I would however lease the 996 or the Lexus for a couple of years and trade that in...

POST 68Original post

yeah...thats the exact feeling I get in my nomex Recaros. How much did you said that your sofas weight?

POST 69Original post

My favorite is when they say that the 996 is the "Ford Taurus of Porsches" That is 100% %$#@*&%* Does knocking another P-car make their weenies grow?

POST 70Original post

Cancel that. These are ALL Porsches and ALL Superior, 993s and 996s alike. There you go. Let's work as a group ane pick on Beemers.

POST 71Original post

Are those the stock Recaros that came with your 996? Or did you removed your heavy sofas to compensate for the weight that you added with the rollbar and all the nice red straps, belts, buckles, wings and all the other stuff that you added?

POST 72Original post

I agree with the sentiment except that if one is accurate, the GT is a bit more closely related to the boxster than the 996. Yikes that really messes up us 996 wannabees or was that wallabees errr wallaby's wait perhaps the 996 was the ugly sister of the lineup...

POST 73Original post

Mr. Sullivan, I have owned several including a 993. As with any driver or racer newest is better, but that's just my opinion.

POST 74Original post

Yeah. But I think we should also agree that the 993 is the automotive equivalent of lederhosen: yes, authentic, but excessively warm, stiff, uncomfortable, and inappropriate for everyday use. And they smell funny.

POST 75Original post

See the thing about the 996 driver is they need to feel important. They weren't the last of anything, and they weren't really the first either, seeing as how the 924/944/968 series is obviously superior as the first watercooled porsches. The 996 is like the whiny middle sibling. Never gets others to see things his way like the youngest, and does not have the authority of the oldest. Just kind of slides by in the middle with nobody noticing.

POST 77Original post

May the Great and Mighty 993 bless you and keep you in the sight of its round-as-911-headlights should be.

POST 78Original post

the 996 and 993 both are posers. The 964 was the last real 911. Just look at the raised fenders and the all important atleast to 993 owners round headlights and closer to the 959.

POST 79Original post

Anybody who knows a damn thing about 911s knows the 3.2 Carrera was the last real Porsche!

POST 80Original post

Nope. They're stock. You know...the MK1 GT3 Clubsport was mounted in Weissach Motorsport division...and is a proud 996

POST 81Original post

"May the Great and Mighty 993 bless you and keep you in the sight of its round-as-911-headlights should be" Yea, to bad the GT1 and Carrera GT don't have round headlights.

POST 82Original post

Nah that's not it. He wouldn't know what to do with all that extra power, speed, and grip he'd get with the 996....

POST 83Original post

...and the luxurious interior would just make him feel too pampered and soft. It's just not a real Porsche if it's comfortable AND fast.

POST 84Original post

All right, I hate to burst your bubble, but -- as someone who admires 993's looks and the 996's modern safety features and performance capabilities, I will have to say this: the 993 Cabriolet is the weakest link in the 993 family. The covered soft top looks like an ant hill. The narrow body lacks the sinuous curves that make 993 so beautiful in the first place. Without the roof line, the thing really looks like a bathtub, and in this case it's not a compliment the way it was with the venerable 356. As far as 993s go, unless you are a diehard convertible fan, the cabriolet is the least desirable, hands down. This is reflected in the usually lower sales price of the 993 cabriolets compared to all other 993s . I am glad you enjoy your ride, and you should. But as far as collector's car....not quite. The above is all my opinions of course. You can try to refute it, but I'm not going to change my mind, really, on preferences.

POST 85Original post

I think after all that is said and done... one would have to ask... Why is it that current race teams do NOT use any aircooled cars? Hmm...there must be a reason why.

"No, is because when I'm 90... I would like to have some wood interior in my car with lots of shinny buttons, some really soft suspension so I can cruise around, one finger light steering for easy parking, automatic climate control, wide seats for my big aging ***, dumb-proof traction control for my slow responses, Japanese engineering and construction, and "grown-up" styling to appeal to my lady friends at the senior citizen club, and the Lexus and 996 would both fit my needs then." I want to start off my saying that a 993 coupe is one of the best looking Porsches ever, and a lot better looking than my 996, but you cannot argue with the performace of the 996. My car doesn't have wood on the interior, or traction control, or wide comfortable seats. My car is lighter than a 993, and it's faster, and stiffer. I have see plenty of 993s with wood interiors, supple leather seats, and cabrios are chick cars anyways.

POST 91Original post

LOL...it was just a matter of time before some "egos" got hurt and the personal attacks would start. You guys crack me up. No need to be deffensive or take it personally... You are taking this way too seriously. If you like your 996's, then great, it's a Porsche, enjoy it in good health. Be safe!

POST 92Original post

Waiting for the flames on this statement.........

POST 93Original post

Does the air from a 993 heater stink like my 72T, and my 1980 SC's?

POST 95Original post

why are you calling 993 owners, flamers? sheesh. kabob, corn on the cob.

POST 96Original post

We're still messin around. No personal attacks here unless you find the truth to be a personal attack

POST 97Original post

I wish I had a 993 to go along with my 996. Everytime I see a 993, I am pissed about the looks of my 996. I am also one of the few that prefers the old school 911 interiors to the 996's cheap interior. All that said, my 996 is a dream to drive, and not to bad looking either.

POST 98Original post

Personal attacks? Weren't we just joking? . You know...I love the 993 too.

POST 99Original post

I've owned three different iterations of the 911, the last being a 993 and my first was a '70 911. Although I've never owned a 996, I've had the pleasure of driving them on many occassions and I think they are fine cars. What I noticed about the 996 was that it was Porsche's first significant attempt to reach out to a bigger market by putting more of an emphasis on the amenities. Obviously Porsche's strategy was hugely successful based on the huge number of 996s that they were able to sell. When the 911 was first offered it was a spartan car that focussed on performance, and that was and still is the way that I define a sports car. I must admit I always have to laugh when I read where Porsche owners complain about the cup holders or the sound quality of their radio or the shape of the steering wheel of their 911. IMO most 996s and 997s have evolved more into GT cars to appeal to a mass market. Porsche of course still has their "pure sports car" offering in the GT3 which is a car that I obviously love, and I would buy one in a heart beat if I were still into racing. Bottom line is that I have never driven a Porsche, and I've driven many over the last 35 years, that hasn't been a pleasure to drive, and the 993 and 996 are both great cars for a slightly different market.

POST 100Original post

fast1 you are so right about the cup holders!!

POST 101Original post

No flaming from me... I'll let my 996 cabrio brothers take care of that one for me. That has to be one of the most childish and ignorant posts I've read on a long time. I think I'll start forwarding all the spam e-mail about male enhancements that I get to laneskelton. I'm sure they'll go to good use. Or at least the ones that are title "Be a man, be a stud, get a tin roof and grow 4 inches in one week"... Anyways, it all started in good fun between 996 and 993 brothers, but now is cabs agains coupes, then it'll be white cars against silver ones, etc, etc. I can take a hint when I'm not welcome anymore. Time for me to sign off...Have fun guys.

POST 102Original post

Translation: "If you like your 996's, then great" = How could anyone like a 996? It's not a 993. "it's a Porsche, enjoy it in good health." = Well, it's certainly no 993, but it I suppose it is a Porsche, although not qualified to be referred to as a 911.

POST 103Original post

I haven't ended up with a water cooled 911 because..........one hasn't fallen in my lap yet. But if you want to extend the "the newer one is better" mentality, I invite comparisons of, say, a '73S (hell, a CIS T for that matter) and a '77 comfort group "S" air pump/thermal reactor/EGR/dealer add air conditioning/no front oil cooler/14" wheels/softer t-bars wonderkar. Made a lot of money keeping the latter type cars going 15-25 years ago.........

POST 104Original post

Yea, I mean the guys is clearly wrong......Porsche lost their direction once they moved from tractors. Now a good 1959 super with 35 PS - that was a real Porsche. Sorry guys, real sports cars have two seats, the 993/996 family cars are good but......

POST 105Original post

From Laneskelton: "cabrios are chick cars anyways" Having been a motorcycle junkie for the last 40 years, I always thought windshields were for chicks, newbies and people that would rather be in a car. My Cab is the closest thing to a scooter and NO, I don't use the windstop, it's made for those who regret buying the Cab.

POST 106Original post

Jeez... I feel like I'm back with the kids on the 350Z forum... the G35 is better... no the 350Z is better... blah blah blah. I love the 993 and 996. Which is better, that depends on what's important to YOU, not the other guy. I did a lot of research before deciding on a MY02 and if anyone doesn't like it, they'll have to find some way to get over it. Cheers, Joe

POST 107Original post

Well the GT isn't a 911 so it's irrelevant. Of course the 996 as a sports coupe has more in common with the 924, 944 and 928 than real 911 sports cars, but after the 928 debacle I guess Porsche decided misleading labeling of a sports coupe was better than having another flop in the market.

POST 108Original post

Well said, Joe. Lots of people like sports coupes like MBs, Lexuses or 996s. Others like me prefer sports cars like 911's (pre-996) and Ferraris

POST 109Original post

Funny, I was under the impression that sports cars are light like the 996. I quess since a 996 can clean up a 993 on the track, it must be a real bummer driving a 993 knowing that MB's or Lexuses could do the same. Since (according to you) they are alike..... Got any more stupid observations you want to share??

POST 110Original post

That's quite a list there! 924's, 944's, 928's, and 996's are all unworthy of being "real sports cars" in your opinion. Additionally, the 928 was a debacle? (I thought it's another great Porsche) Are there any other Porsche's you want to denigrate while your here???

POST 111Original post

I'm with you. The only Porsche that I really didn't care for was the 914, which was the result of a joint effort between VW and Porsche. Other than that, I really have respect for them all. I don't know if this 993/996 feud is funny or sad, but it sure doesn't make much sense to me. I use to own a Vette and I have never seen feuds between owners of C5s and C6s, certainly nothing like the 993/996 feud.

POST 112Original post

I agree (except I like 914's). The 993 and 996 are both great Porsche's. More than that, Porsche's in general are the cars that most folks dream about! I just don't get the complex that some 993 owners seem to have about their cars. It's really quite silly . An even more staggering apparent fact is that a number of these owners will walk right into a "room" of other Porsche owners (that's essentially what each of the model forums on Rennlist are) and broadly proclaim your car stinks, mine is better.

POST 113Original post

I have a feud, the C4 was the last "real" 'vette because it was the last fiberglass car. C5 and ups are not real 'vettes, I dont know why no one ever brings that up in the 'vette world. C5/C6's are plastic (tupperware), hence my sig. Enough, back to the "real" cars

POST 114Original post

Why is the 993 sooo far superior to all other Porsches??? They are not superior, simply because they are nothing but glorified leaf blowers on wheels! hee hee

POST 115Original post

Forgive them for they do not know what they do. It boils down to man's greatest flaw since the dawn of time -- insecurity about the size of their

POST 116Original post

Our fans are bigger than your fans. :-) I've been driving 911s for 17 years now, and every time a new model comes out, the people with the older model say their's is better. T 73 911S is better than the 75 911 because of all thermal reactors and weak case studs ... the 1983 911SC feels quicker off the line than the 1984 3.2 Carrera ... the 87-89 3.2 Carrera is the better 3.2 Carrera because it has a hydraulic clutch and bigger AC vents ... the 3.2 Carrera is the "last of the real 911s" ... the 964 is the best 911 because it retained more of the classic 911 shape than the 993 ... and, of course, the 993 beats the 996 because it's air-cooled, has curves and is "the last (again) of the real" 911's. I have yet to hear anyone say the 996 is superior to the 997, though. This goes right back to when the 911 replaced the 356. But none of that really seems to get under anyone's skin with the exception of the 996 comparisons. Why do you suppose that's true?

POST 117Original post

The 996 is better than the 997 because the 996 is smaller, lighter, and more raw. The 997's sportiness is washed out.

POST 118Original post

Let's see, so I've driven my faux 993RS twice now; and have yet to be passed by really anyone, let alone lowly GT3's or 996 turbos. Waaaaay too much rests on the driver. Or maybe the 993 platform is the pinnacle! (Admitedly, these were a couple of the lowest-end DE's you can imagine. Sometime's it's all that fits in an 80 hr/week schedule.) Anyway, if you've followed/owned/worked on these things over multiple decades, you can see the cheap-*** design and build factor start appearing on the 993's (v. the 964's) and takes over once the Boxster shows up.

POST 119Original post

For you 993 guys that really want a 996 but can't really let go.

POST 120Original post

If every 993 out there is a 993RS, then the argument would be over, 993RS wins. But if you want to talk performance between a 996, 996TT, and cars like the 993 cabriolet.... forget it. I am NOT taking a 993 cabriolet over a 996 anything.

POST 121Original post

When I read these threads, it doesn't appear to me as though it is the 996 owners that have the problem. Most 996 owners seem to have an appreciation for most all Porsches, specifically including the 993, and compliment the 993 even though they chose to buy a 996. On the other hand, there's a small but vocal group of 993 owners that seem to need to rationalize their choice of a 993 by denigrating the 996. Some 993 owners even take it so far as to denigrate other Porsche models as well, as evidenced in this very thread.

POST 122Original post

Yes, this is a NA 993 owner issue. None of the other generations have these hangups, even the 993TT guys are great. All this drama over an inefficient cooling system that no one uses anymore, and a hopelessly out of date interior for a late 90s car What the 993 NA guys fail to realize is that their cars are more rare because NO ONE was buying them, which was bankrupting the company. So yes, supply and demand work in their favor. And they do have a better built engine.

POST 123Original post

Here, try this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...49&postcount=1

POST 125Original post

No one was buying 964's. Basically, 993's saved the company (for various reasons all over the public domain). And I'm a likely GT3 owner. When the depreciation comes down to the point where I can buy one out of my petty cash fund. I'll take my 3 air cooleds for about what one goes for now, or ~75% of a new one. I just personally can't justify over ~$35K for a car that's: 1. going to sit in the garage 350 days of the year, or 2. get beaten into the ground 5 days a year.

POST 126Original post

I can! My 996 (ahem) GT3 is the best Porsche that I have ever driven... Yes, it is strictly my track car and my grin is so wide after driving it that I now have a flip-top head... Letting it sit in the garage for 350 days per year works for me as that grin takes weeks to come of... People on the street often comment "Look at that grinnin' fool"... Besides, the 996 GT3 is primarily a piece of art in my garage. No really - I charge the local kids admission to sit in the driver's seat... Great tax write-off.. Anyway, I do see the arrogance of the 993 community and find it amusing. I turn my head for ANY Porsche on the street - even the 924 (oops, you have found the one Porsche/Audi that I really don't like, though respect fully... I assure you). Darn it, I just cursed a Porsche. I need to go repent... -B

POST 127Original post

IF performance is the goal, I'd buy a Z06 Corvette. At least the Vette is a legitimate sports car, not a soft sports coupe masquerading as a 911. For most non-TT 993 owners -- especially Cab owners -- owning a dream machine sports car is the goal. We could care less if a Z06 or a 996 or a souped up JapaKorekasuki can beat us to the next stoplight. We are satisfied dropping the top and checking out the drooling babes. I'll wave at you as you blow past me to the next stoplight.

POST 128Original post

So, the 993, which is heavier, slower accelerating, poorer in braking, and has poorer, slower handling is "a dream machine sports car". And the 996, which is lighter, quicker accelerating, quicker braking, and has better and faster handling, is "a soft sports coupe". Seriously though, this is the kind of post that destroys the credibility of the "993 is the ultimate 911" crowd, and makes them just look plain silly. And when someone posts such nonsense it actually does the 993 and the 993 owner a disservice, as the 993 should be able to stand on it's own merits without the 993 owner attempting to denigrate other Porsches with false assertions.

POST 129Original post

Good point. I think a lot of us... the diff between owning a 996 GT3 and a 993 cab or 997TT etc etc is a very fine line. How bad do you want it? How much value do YOU get out of it? Where's the marginal value and how much is left between the 911 that does 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds or the one in 5.5 seconds? I don't roll down the streets of Kirkland, WA pointing out cars that are greater or lesser than mine especially when it comes to 911s. I happily wave, cool if they wave back - glad to be in the fraternity (what a blessing it is those drooling snitches).

POST 130Original post

Although I don't have any hard evidence to support my belief, I would be surprised if more than 1 in 10 993 owners would support the anti 996 venom in this thread. As a former owner of a 993 and based on discussions that I have had with several other 993 owners, I have never run across anyone who felt that the 996 was inferior. Of course some of us lamented the elimination of the dry sump in the 996, but to suggest that it is inferior to the 993 and is not worthy to be classified as a 911 is preposterous.

POST 132Original post

Someone should link this thread over to the Corvette forum. I bet the boys over there would get a big laugh at the internecine warfare between some 993/996 owners.

POST 134 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Read the first post of this thread again... I was just kidding and look at the nonsense that has developed. I cannot believe a Porsche owner would degrade themself to this type of bickiring. truely bizarre

POST 135Original post

I think most of us knew you were kidding, hence the babbling... although some may have thought otherwise.

POST 136Original post

Have you seen the 'disregard thread' 996 thread? I much prefer to spend my time there.

POST 137Original post

I think many of us see the issue as Porsche's misleading labeling for marketing purposes, not a question of "worthiness." For example, one could well argue that a 928 is "worthy" of being a 911 and on hindsight Porsche probably wishes they had labeled it a 911 fast back or something of the sort. I'm sure many people would say that the fact the 996 looks like a 911 is enough. But would those same people say a 912 should have been labeled a 911 since it's sheet metal was essentially the same?

POST 138Original post

See, only a 993 owner would have an avatar in which a CAR calls Jesus un-worthy

POST 139Original post

That makes about as much sense as a 996 owner having a screen name related to 928's. I had always assumed Jesus had dark skin. Maybe you can share a recent photo of him?

POST 140Original post

No, my handle refers to the golfer Greg Norman. The guy in your avatar DOES have dark skin. This is why its always fun to tease the myopic NA 993 crowd, who think an inefficient cooling system and a round headlight gives them a free pass into heaven
