My only advice though is inspect the car thoroughly for the RMS.

If money is not an issue then I would recommend the 997s, which is another step ahead of the 996.

Because you're tired of telling the oil change guy he doesn't have to worry that the coolant level is low
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you can't come up with reasons on your own, then you just don't get it and you never will.
I do have one suggestion: read the Excellence Magazine issue that reported on the new 996 when it first came out. They found it to be superior to the 993 in every way, as I recall.
Buy the 996 cause the 993 should only be reserved for royalty and heads-of-state. So, for instance, if you're the "King" of Scottland, you must stick with the 993!!
Can it be that the 993 board is down for some reason?
We're having so much visitors resently.
Or is it that some of the old school guys woke up and realized that a 911 doesn't need to be a scrunched VW bug in the 21st century?

Very funny...can not have so much fun with you 996 guys overthere
1. Because the disco ball in your 70s interior stopped rotating
2. You are getting tired of the Bee Gees music coming out of your tape player......BTW, what the hell is a tape player? Need to ask my Grandfather
3. You want more performance without overheating on a summer day
4. You want to upgrade those massive 15" wheels
5. You are tired of having people ask what year your VW is
OK, there is 5 of them, I'm sure others will help also
11. Your "pork chop" side burns have grown so bushy you can no longer fit into your 993.
12. Your 3" wide belt has finally worn a hole in the 993 seat back.
17. Because the comb-over mullet hairstyle you've been sporting since your car was new isn't pulling in the high-class skanks it used to
18. Because you've heard of satellite navigation and the 1995 free Porsche map your car came with isn't working anymore
19. Because you're tired of telling the oil change guy he doesn't have to worry that the coolant level is low
20. Because you're tired of being asked by ricers what brand of fart can you're running
21. Because your hair dresser is thinking about trading in a Boxster for a 993 because they showed one on Queer Eye last week
What's taking the 996 community so long to convince me 21 reasons in only five days. Let's see if you guys can gave me the other 79 reasons in two days of course this will say alot about the 996 and convince me faster
I don't have 100 reasons. If money is not an issue then I would recommend the 997s, which is another step ahead of the 996.
But here are some reasons from owning both the 993 and 996 at the same time:
(1). Better MPG
(2). Lower maintenance cost
(3). A/C works great
(4). Easier to drive
(5). Better handling
(6). Better performance
Flaw compare to a 993 in my opinion is:
(1). Doesn't hold the value as well
(2). Get confused with a Boxster
#1. 'Cause you cant afford a 997.
#2. 993's interior is spartan compared to the 996
#3. Engine has more 50 HPs compared to the air cooled of the 993.
#4. 996 wheel base is more adept/stable to our faster highways than the short wheel base of the 993.
#5.

I think the 993 is a great car. It's 30 years of continued innovation, but it's an age old design. They could only push it so far to adapt to ever changing road conditions. It's true that they say that the 993 needs more attention to drive, it dances with the road surface. The 996 does not. If it hits a bump, it stays in it's trajectory. I think that stability is good for our fast highways/freeways of today. 02 and newer has 40 horses more, with lighter bodyweight. So you actually gain more push power. The interior is more civilized functionaly. Shifting alone is so much easier with my 996. It's a shorter throw with less effort. It gives me that more sport shifting feel. I could only go on and on. My only advice though is inspect the car thoroughly for the RMS. Look at the bolts where the transmission meets the engine for oil seepage, or if they bear signs that they were move before, a telltale that the RMS was replaced. I'm lucky that mine is clean(Knock on wood). I still have 9 mos of waranty and only have 13500 mi. There's only few percentage of these cars that have that problem, of course you only hear it from these guys thats why it seems like it's an epidemic in rennlist.
I took a porsche master mechanic(I consider the best here in our area) with me when I looked at my 02coupe from a non porsche dealer. I gave him $40 for 20 mins of his time(although he didn't want to take it being a friend) to look at the car real good, drive it to check the Vario Cams, ABS and PSM if they were all working good. The mechanical checks he did weren't limited to what I mentioned but those were the big ones he explained to me while we were driving it and he let me feel them at work/or when they kick in. The car has 9 mos more of waranty, so thats a plus.
1 more thing, ease maintenance on the engine is 4 folds better than the 993. Changing oil is easier than my Toyota truck. Oil Filter and Drain Port are both right at the bottom of engine.
Good luck on your search. Pick what your heart really wants. I respect all porschephiles for whatever model they pick. Porsches are all track bred cars...and the Cayene to pull the trailer to the track
#23. We're actually out driving our cars, instead of "visiting" our cars in the shop, every other week. You said nothing in your OP about a timlimit. However, this is also why we may not have the time to get 100 reasons in 4 days.
FYI, 100 reasons is simply the tip of the iceberg...
24. Enjoy cleaning up oil in garage from RMS leak
25. Need PSM to keep car on road
26. Save water and soap washing the slab sides
27. Get newer car for less money thanks to higher depreciation
28. Adrenaline rush starting car everytime wondering if motor will grenade
29. Bose stereo hides all the rattles from cheap interior
30. Has cupholders so you can pay less attention to your driving
31. Tax break when DMV mistakes it for a Boxster and charges less
32. Replacement engines are much cheaper than 993
33. Enjoy paying bodyshop to add sideskirts to look more like a 911 than Ford Probe
34. Like feeling defensive about your car. No, really, it's better because it's faster/newer
35. No repetitive boring retro-styling like the 997
;-)
Hey, I've owned and liked both. But someone's gotta give the other side here.
Hey hey now, I CALL BULL****! This question was posed by a 993'r TO 996'rs. We don't need, and DON'T want your help!!!!!
FELLAS, CONTINUE FROM #25 as #25 to #35 DO NOT COUNT!!! and are officially rejected!!!!
I'll start!!!
Pretty sure this was not what he was looking for, but i at least found it mildly amusing. 28 particularly hits home for me.
Real reason why you should buy a 996 is it is a grea car. Pretty simple. Aside from my grenade engine i loved just about every moment i owned my 996. It was low maintenance, easy to drive daily, and a heck of a lot of fun.
27. To enjoy Porsche's upgrade from 1960s ergonomics
28. To go faster than 993s
29. To drive further than 993s thanks to better mpg
30. To enjoy brakes that are even better than the 993
31. To enjoy changing gear, instead of comparing it to stirring a bowl of thick oatmeal
I don't think.... haahaahahhhahahah ... oops sorry Gant I didn't mean to.... Bwahahahaha... ooops, sorry again!
vjd3, I don't think that was funny at all............. it was HILARIOUS!
36-100, because you drive like a girl and you should paint your car purple. Stop living in the past and step up to the present. The 997 is now KING> Why drive a beetle, when you can drive a superior performance car?
Just kidding, I live your car! I'd like to find an old c2 turbo in black. I think I'll keep mine, it's not for sale.
