Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I saw this while window shopping on Auto Trader: 2005 PORSCHE 911, 30K mi, NEW ENGINE with only 9k, NAV, 6-sp, 19" Carrera Classic wheels, Bose Surround, Pwr seats, CD changer, Bi-xenons, Warranty, Records, $59,900, [phone removed] A great price for a Carrera S but what's up with the "NEW Engine"?

POST 2Original post

IIRC, there have been a couple of engine replacements reported on the 997 Forun. I think they were '05 cars. I hang out on the 997 Forum quite a bit and I don't recall hearing of too many instances of 997 engine replacements. At least not as many as 996's, but then the 996 had 6 years of production (7 if you count the C4 & C4S in '05), and the 997 has been in production for only 3 years.

POST 3Original post

I had heard from dealer that they are but less drastic numbers... They are still using an evolution of the essentially flawed design of the M96 engine.

POST 6Original post

But I paid all that money so it would be perfect!

POST 8Original post

You know he could has missed a downshift, over revved it and blew it himself...There are a few things that the driver can do to blow an engine.....so dont just jump to the M96 failure conclusion.

POST 9Original post

my '06 "S" had a cylinder crack @ 3k miles. Engine replaced under warranty. That said, I love the car.

POST 10Original post

damn.... i must really be lucky to have a 99 and an intact engine.........wheeeeew!

POST 11Original post

but you know.... in CR the 07's are rated the MOST unreliable sports car................ is that because of the engine?

POST 13Original post

You have to take into consideration who actually reads the magazine and how many of them might actually own a 997 to participate in their surveys. Now if Car & Driver (or similar car mag) had a reliability survey, it might actually have some credibility. CR is a better source for reliability of appliances and other consumer products.
