Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If the hood has been replaced, there are a variety of reasons for that.
Leading evidence: 'Replace there are a variety of reasons' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace there are a variety of reasons' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

...ask:
Comin from the 964 world, I have no clue on the the details on 996s so I would like to know what parts that was included in the US 030 package for 996?
Rollbar diameters, colorcoding on springs and brand of shocks would be appreciated.
Also if anyone knows what option code 014 stands for?
Cheers,
Daniel Saxlid
Ok I am still a newbie to my Porsche...where is the sticker/decal that has the codes on it so I know what the car originally came with?
Thanks in advance.
OK, Steven, since you posted a lot of pics of your car early in the process ywe'll cut you a little slack! You didn't get the "Secret Decoder Ring?" Too bad... I guess you're just SOL. J/K!
Click on
General
on the left side of the screen then click on
Opt. Decoder
to find out what each option code means. There may be a couple that you don't find. In fact list all of your codes here and we'll help you decode them.
Tim, unfortunately my problem now is that I cannot locate a sticker that has any codes on it. I have looked and looked but cannot find it. So what do I do now?
Do you have the original manuals? A lot of times the dealers also put a sticker on the inside front cover of one of the manual books. I have one on the inside of my front hood and one on the inside front cover of my maintenance manual.
If the option build sticker is missing from the center front of the inside of the luggage compartment hood, it is usually a good indication that the hood has been replaced. The sticker is always placed in the center just behind the hood latch, and they do not come off.
If the hood has been replaced, there are a variety of reasons for that.
As a matter of curiosity...are any of the option codes recorded in the DME computer so if you hooked it up to the PIWIS or PST2 you could see them? I don't know....
Yep no sticker under the hood, not sure if it has been replaced, previous owner claims no and nothing shows-up in a DB that it was involved in an accident. Although I have always looked at the hood as the shade on it is a little different, I need to have an expert opinion. BTW, you mentioned various reasons for the hood to be replaced...?
As for the sticker I did find in the Maintenace manual, it does match-up to the VIN so that is good, but 2 options stick out:
413 = 18" Turbo Look Wheels: I was given what I was told the original wheels, handed down from owner to owner, but they are 17". So I bet along the way someone traded out the 18's for there 17's...damn it.
436 = 996 - 3-spoke Steering Wheel: Well somone must of changed it out as I have a 4-spoke...damn it again.
Only other codes were about heated seats (139 & 340), cat's (C02) and automatic heating control (424).
Well if that is the case, and I can see why you feel that is, then I will have the dealership dig a little deeper for me today when I take it to them for the wheel alignment.
Update: I just remembered I have the "original" front bumper (it looks like the original and has stickers inside it with dates on them from 1998 so I feel very good it is the original one that came with the car), and there is NO damage to it whatsoever. So I have to rule out front end crash.
