I ran the Sumitomo HTRZIII on my previous car - a 968 coupe - and was very impressed with the performance and wear for the price.

I imagine it makes a difference with the rims and suspension being used plus tire pressures.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While considering what tires to buy for my 928 S4 I ran this comparison of various tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTires.jsp; I note that the characteristics which I hold dear; ride comfort and noise comfort of the lowest priced tire - General Exclaim UHP is comparable to the higher priced brands. Is anyone running these tires? Can this comparison be trusted in the real world of "where the rubber meets the road?"

POST 2Original post

The Exclaim has been a great tire for us. It's hydroplane resistance has been very good. Wear OK, and surprisingly (given that tread design) they don't get loud as they wear down. A good tire for the money. Please call me if interested.

POST 3Original post

Yah they are called the Exclaim UHP's and they came on my car when I got it. Pretty good handling like rails. Seldom a peep out of them taking turns higher than advertised safe speed. I am happy. They are the first tires I have had that don't broadcast thundering tire screeching when driving on glossy concrete in parking structures. Real quite on the slippery concrete. No real noticeable racket from the tires. They don't seem to trap air under the rubber which is why most tires are loud. The ride isn't harsh and like I mentioned they do transmit inputs spot on. If I had a better place than public roads to test their breaking loose point i could tell you more. They do handle 35-40mph 90 degree turns on town roads or traffic lights nicely once again with out a peep. I've tried 36psi all around, 36 front, 44 rear, 32 all around, 34 front 38 rear and still haven't received a get out of jail card to really test them. The tires don't change at confiscated car and jail time speeds.

Agree - I run them on my Jetta 1.8T and my Volvo S60 T5. But is it really a Porsche 996 Carrera tire? As far as Porsche is concerned, this is not a 'approved' N-rated tire for this model. I ran the Sumitomo HTRZIII on my previous car - a 968 coupe - and was very impressed with the performance and wear for the price. But again, not an N-rated tire. Tire Rack's discussion of the N-Rating ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...jsp?techid=26& ) is decent. However it does not explain that tires with this identification have been specifically engineered with a rear weight biased car in mind - a point made in several sources, including Adrian Streathers' book on the 996 ( http://www.amazon.com/Porsche-996-Es.../dp/1845840968 ). Just how important is N-Rating?

POST 5Original post

I had them on the caddie and bought a set for my kid's car (the just departed MX3) and was quite happy with them. They are really Conti's under the skin I am told as General is owned by Continental and I found they are really good in the wet and even snow. On the CTS they were WAY better then those POS Goodyears that came with the car that did nothing well except cost more! For a 996? I'm not sure about them - but it wouldn't be a safety issue I would be concerned with - just what would the handling be on tires not developed for a rear bias / rear engine car??

POST 6Original post

I had them on my VW dint last one Summer after some Burnout's....

POST 7Original post

My friend put them on an E46 M3 and I do have to say, that is the worst tire ever (ok, not the worst but shockingly horrible!!!).....sidewalls are mush to say the least.

POST 8Original post

I imagine it makes a difference with the rims and suspension being used plus tire pressures. 32 all around felt like the tires could use some more pressure because of a strange feeling with the squat nailing it in turns and not getting any screeching. Then the tires wouldn't screech much at 36front 44 rear so I figured its a good pressure because it felt more online in turns. 36 36 was great too. The tires max pressure I believe is 55psi or abouts. I'm using 235/35/19 front and 275/30/19 in the rear. Pretty much good for town driving and country spirits. Like mentioned above they are good for rain but it still hasn't snowed here this summer oops....winter yet. I am thinking of trying the Continental Extreme Contact DW next. They are rated dry and wet better than some name brand tires. Here's the Continental Extreme Contact DW's review. Click page 8 & 9 for the winner of dry and wet. http://www.eurotuner.com/techarticle...yokohamas.html The tires were used in the fast and funkiest http://www.eurotuner.com/news/eurp_0...res/index.html Here's a review of the Exclaim UHP's. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/gen...im-uhp-review/
