I see a lot of threads about replacing LEDs in the instrument cluster, but I have a different challenge: a few of the lights in my climate control display have either stopped working, or only work intermittently.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have searched far and wide on the boards but can't seem to find this topic previously discussed. I see a lot of threads about replacing LEDs in the instrument cluster, but I have a different challenge: a few of the lights in my climate control display have either stopped working, or only work intermittently. (The result is that the display will try, for example, to produce a "78" but will instead display "72" because two of the bars don't illuminate properly. ) 1. Is it difficult to pop out the climate control display? 2. Is it difficult to replace the individual bulbs? 3. Where do I start? I have seen a guy on eBay that sells blue and "super white" displays. (I'm too new to post links but his seller ID is area51mods.) That's nifty but I just want the OEM yellow with bright, fully functional bulbs. Thanks in advance. ------- 2001 C2 Cabriolet

POST 2Original post

1. to pop out the display is super easy, take away the cover (carefully) and unscrew 2 screws 2. I don't know 3. I would buy a replacement unit and exchange them.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I kinda thought that a new unit would be the way to go until I saw that guy on eBay popping out old LED bulbs and soldering in new ones... Seemed like it might be less expensive, assuming a mere mortal can do the labor. Anybody know of an online shop that sells replacement units? I could go to the dealer but I'd prefer to just find it online and place the order... Anyone know how much a replacement costs? Thanks!
