Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Over the weekend had a friend stop by with this (new to him) 996 to install a set of FabSpeed MaxFlow Mufflers... I told him it was going to be an easy swap and that we should be done in less than an hour or so... Well... 6 hours later and two trips to Lowes for stainless steel bolts.... we were done Every frigging bolt in that exhaust sytem was corroded to the point we had to break, cut, grind most of them We also noticed a leak that we will need to trace so anyone here that have seen this, please chime in... Here are a few photos of the leak: Muffler removed: New FabSpeed can:

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More photos: Not kidding... bolts where gone... Nice looking muffler...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Forgot to upload a photo of his car... And since this photo the offending amber signals have been corrected to clear units

POST 4Original post

its a shame the exhaust won't look like that in a couple months. Mine is covered in road grime and melted rubber

POST 5Original post

Yep, It's a PITA Took me about the same time to do that job and 2 dremels later. Nice work I had a similar oil leak. For me it was the spark plug o-rings. You can remove the metal cover over the coils and see if thats it.

POST 6Original post

What the hell happened to that cars undercarriage!? Looks like it has bee exposed to salty roads.

POST 7Original post

I drive on salted roads every winter and mine doesn't look that bad. I think it's probably from the salty sea air.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have to review the car history... but pretty sure that it was not a Florida car all its life... by the level of rust it looked like it had been exposed to salty roads, snow slush, etc... I also told the owner that he needed to get rid of all that cosmoline... this thing can look a 1,000 time better by just cleaning all that crap out.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool. We will check. Thank you!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BTW, the owner does not need/want the old mufflers... so (not sure why... but...) if anyone wants/need them just say the word... I can't store them in my garage.... to much crap already... and just can't seem to bring myself to put them out for the garbage truck to pick them up...

POST 11Original post

Beautiful mufflers. Great choice. Congratulations.
