This is not a probability of success.

I have to admit, that my 79 SC was reliable, fun to drive, never surprised me with a huge repair bill, but the inside always smelled of hot, burnt oil, and the AC and defroster were almost worthless.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here it is after a few weeks getting the funds together (thanks to all those who recommended PENFED) finally picked her up, shes not perfect but will be, what a blast to drive. 2000 996 Factory Aero, Fabspeed stage 1 and about 60k on the clock. What a huge and PLEASANT depature from my 1982 911SC.
Dirty and needing a bath but almost home.....
No leaks whatsoever, No marble sounds under motor
Up next, fluid(s) change...and a detail...
Just noticed that you have a Saab Aero. Love those cars.
Owned 3 Viggens and currently 02 Viggen Conv (wife) and 9-5 Aero Wagon(winter) all moded with Nordic Stage 3.
Well what basically happened was that I sold both my Audis in less than a week, was searching for a daily driver that would be fun and that looked good, and found the 9-3 local and a at good price...so jumped on it, It has very quirky electronics but drives great and is comfortable and alot cheaper than the audi was, plus its different dont see to many Aeros out there. Allways wanted a saab, really fell in love with the Viggens and decided to try them out...super happy I did. What a relief spyker bought them huh
I flip flopped on getting anther STI but started looking at 911s (wanted to get back into a P-CAR) about a month ago...did a little research and decided I could afford a 996 and the Aero kit sold it....So happy with it..just came from garage after looking at it again....
Beautiful car. That's funny about looking in the garage again to see it. I guess everybody does it once in a while.
Take care on the hwy's. I remember a few years back the police charged a bike rider with murder in NY since a policeman cut across the median to chase him then lost control of his personal SUV going over 100mph. Since they had the charge stick it's a viable charge for anyone to get murder charges if a cop takes off on a tricycle down a mountain. The bike rider never even saw the policeman chasing. Biker just blew by on the other side of the hwy and goes to jail for murdering.
Nice car. Take care.
Looks great - welcome.
I also have owned Saabs in the past. My favorite was a 2004 9-5 Aero sedan with a manual transmission. I actually attended the Aero Academy at Road Atlanta in Georgia after I bought that car - that was fun!
Awesome, hope to see it at one of our drives or Cars and Croissants this year.
JakeOK, Saab 9-5 Aero here as well.. aka: The Torque steer-mobile
When you own 911's, Saab and other cars ya just never know where the hell the key goes!
Hey guys, you expect me to just sit here & let the SC be disparaged like that?
Granted it's a very, very different driving experience - but I drove my SC over 1600 miles in two days bringing it home and would do an even longer trip again. It's pretty tight in there but I wasn't sore or tired at all. Or maybe it was just the adrenaline rush of driving my first 911.
That said, last spring my wife & I did a 7000+ mile road trip to SF & back in the 996...THAT was pure pleasure, especially on the Pacific Coast Highway. Would do the trip again in a heartbeat.
The 996 is much quieter, easier to drive, and more refined than an SC. The SC rewards you with one of the best air-cooled engine sounds, but it is an antique!
Good luck with your new Aero! Looks great!
real
911's are the best.
Over the past 15 years many Porsche's have come and gone but my 86 Carrera has been with me the entire time, and when I move from my 996 to another Porsche that 86 will still be in my garage.
Thanks for the congrats guys!!!!! As for the SC commenst....my SC was a fiberglass ridden track car...awesome to toss around but what a miserable commute the few times I drove in to work....and it was allways pissing on my garage floor.....no disrespect my car is a relative of it.
For all you saab lovers...my AERO...
Well dear sir arent you MR. 1 Upper...
BTW Saab rejected GMs chasis for the 9-3 as they did with many Gm parts.....then Gm stole the 9_3 chasis for the 2010 Pontiac G6...
I have to admit, that my 79 SC was reliable, fun to drive, never surprised me with a huge repair bill, but the inside always smelled of hot, burnt oil, and the AC and defroster were almost worthless. That said, someday I may own another along with a water colled version.
Yes, the smell of rubber & cosmoline (i.e. victory) is certainly better than that of burnt oil & less-than-fresh upholstery. Call it "charm" I guess...
