Gloss would be the easiest to clean because of the relative smoothness of the paint compared to satin or matt finishes.

But that is just my opinion on using matt paint for wheels.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gents,
I have a Riviera Blue '99 C2 with aerokit. It is in the bodyshop have a GT3 RS rear wing installed, so I thought I would refurb the GT3 wheels, too.
I was thinking of doing the entire wheel (less the bolts) in gloss black, much like the current GT3 RS. Does anyone have any opinion on whether or not I should go for gloss, satin or matt black?
Thanks for your opinions!
Gloss would be the easiest to clean because of the relative smoothness of the paint compared to satin or matt finishes. Personally, I wouldn't go with matt, because it would always look dull, almost like a poor "home made" paint job. But that is just my opinion on using matt paint for wheels.
Guys,
I am leaning heavily in the durection of gloss...I was also going to order some RS graphics for the centre caps. If they look good, I am ordering the proper centre caps...
Are you talking about a 996 MkII RS wing on a MkI car? Why not the "taco" wing which fits the line of the car much better. Just curious as to why you chose it since the MkI aerokit is smooth flowing and the taco wing continues with that theme. The MkII aero is very hard lines as is the wing (both street and RS wings). Just not sure how good that will look.
As for the wheels I just painted a second set of wheels for my GT3 and did the barrel in flat black (matte) with NO clear coat so it almost looks like a dark blackish grey primer and the face of the wheel is gloss black (clearcoated). I like that combo.
Dell, Yes I am talking about the MK2 RS wing on a MK1 car. I have the Taco wing on it now, but will hang on to it in case the RS wing does not appeal. I just prefer the look of the RS wing with the carbon fibre blade...I will post pictures as soon as I can.
Me too LVDell, do not believe I have ever seen that combination. As far as wheels sorry I would stay with the silver but if you must gloss black so you can clean them.
Are you gentlemen painting the wheels yourselves ? I broke out my spray gun this weekend and have paint, primer, clear coat and home made spray booth ready..just working up the nerve.
I have seen several MK1 road cars with the Cup rear wing on them, That is even more aggressive than the RS wing, and that, IMHO, does not look bad at all.
I don't know what I'd do for wheels with a blue car.....with my black car I did a fancy-assed "black chrome" paint job and it turned out fantastic. More reflective paint at the lips fading down the spokes. Black on the inside (behind the spokes). Find the best local wheel refinisher in your area and go talk to them. Bring your car and they might have sample wheels in the showroom to put outside against your car to see what you think.
Cheers,
I think Silver looks good on blue. Here are my 19" Challenge wheels on Lapis Blue:
Had an overcast so you cant tell how good the silver looks in these pics.
Oh! To answer your question I would go with gloss.
With Blue I have to agree stay with silver. I just had wheels for my Black 996 powder coated Black (Gloss , color called Wet). They charged 100 per wheel but that did not include repairs, such as a refinser would do. These are my track wheels so I did not want to get nuts with the exspense. Have not had time to photo yet and car is at the shop getting Roll Bar put in so No Photos for you. I highly recomend powder coating over DIY. They also have some metalic silvers and some realy cool two tone stuff. you might Goggle for some powder coat samples.
