Suggestion
If you live in a area that has a harsh cliamate and you plan to use the car often, then the hard top is a good idea.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and new to Porsche ownership. I just purchased my dream car a 2000 c2 cab. I really love it. Would you recommend purchasing a hardtop for it? Found one at the local Porsche dealership. 1 thousand plus install kit plus labor at around 500. Then it needs a respray because its the wrong color black. Is the hardtop a nice thing to have? What are the great things about a hardtop? Does it make it coupe like? Thanks for any input.
Welcome. Please post some pics for the locals as soon as you reach the proper amount of posts.
To answer your questions, tell us where you live. If you live in So Cal like me, I would say don't bother with the hard top. That is just my personal opinion, and I am sure you will hear differing ones, but I found it utterly useless and difficult to store. It creaks and squeeks, and at least for me, did not seem to improve rigidity of the car at all. I put it on once and took it off again within a week. I would say that unless you are driving daily in a climate with snow and ice, put your money toward mods instead.
Welcome to the forum.
I agree with Joe. It creaks and squeeks and looks kind of ugly.
For the untrained eye it looks maybe as a coup, but for P guys it is absolutely not.
If you live in an area with temperatures below 0 Celcius (<32F) for a longer period then it is a good idea to protect the top, otherwise not.
Someone posted here a week or two ago....got a hardtop for 30 bucks on ebay. Keep your eyes open there if you have the time......Sorry...don't remember who got that killer deal...but you might find it if you search "30 bucks".
Oh....and congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME ABOARD!
J
welcome... AND POST SOME PICS DAMMIT....! now that i got that out of the way, the advice prior are valuable..... if you're in cold weather all the time or more then 50% of the time, get it... if not, i would not. and look on ebay, you can get the hard top for much cheaper.... they typically go for around $500-$700 on ebay.... you'll need to respray them as well.......... but again, if you're in Socal, don't bother, the sun comes out too often to justify a hardtop....... although i do have one, it just came with the car when i got it.... but i hardly if not have it on at all................
post PICS!!!!
Thanks for your input. I'll get pictures on soon. I'm really love the car. I ended up getting a tiptronic which I thought I would never do until I drove it. Plus I'm teaching my daughter how to drive in it. Great fun!
Baldo: Welcome to the club. I had a cabrio before and it was a blast to drive. Enjoy the car in good health. With respect to the hardtop, my opion is similar the the other responses to this post. If you live in a area that has a harsh cliamate and you plan to use the car often, then the hard top is a good idea. If you are interested in a hard top, I have one. Send me a PM for specifics, but definitely I will not spend 1k and then the extra cost to get it re-painted. I also have the installation tool to secure the top to the mouting points in the rear.
Have fun with the car and post pics as soon as you can. We all love to see new rides.
