Having a blown BMW M Roadster, I ran the Vortech kit at 6psi and cranked it up to 12psi last week.

Count me in as another who thought for sure he'd "just get the Carrera" and then test drove a turbo....the drawing board has been wiped clean, I am starting the search all over.
Leading evidence: 'Run vortech kit at 6psi and cranked it up' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I use the Innovative wideband dual o2 to monitor both banks and the lean/rich conditions.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

MY and specific model:
Manufacturer of supercharger (or T/TT if applicable):
Miles so far with the setup:
Problems/issues?
Dyno'd? if so, results:
If not dyno'd, hows your "butt dyno" feeling?
Overall take on it - worth it?
Many thanks!
Overall take on it DONT DO IT! SELL THE 996 AND buy a TT.
X50 TT with Flash , exhaust and modified Air will be pushing 600hp.
You are in Lombard..come downtown will take you for ride in mine.
IMO, if the comparison is between a C2 with a supercharger and a TT, then stick with the C2. The C2 is more nibble, lighter and provides you more of a feel of a sports car. The stock TT is heavy and the ride is closer to that of a touring sedan than a sports car. A C2 with a properly setup supercharger is quicker than a stock TT of the same year. A centrifuge blower maintains the driving characteristics of the Porsche.
The stock brakes are oversized for street use as it is. If you are referring to track use, neither the TT or C2 is properly setup for track anyway and both need modifications.
No flash is going to make a stock TT faster than a properly setup supercharged C2.
If he simply wants the "bling" factor of driving a Porsche and doesn't want to hone his drving skills, then the heavy AWD TT should be his choice. If he is a good driver and/or wants to improve his driving skills, then the more nibble C2 should be his choice.
Not sure how much HP you expect out of a SC. Flashed TT is bringing about 480Bph and 500 lb-ft.
Also, when doing 0-60 in around 4 secs and q/m in close to 12.5, I'll take the biggest brakes available. Touring sedan? Well, if that's the case, it's the best handling touring sedan I've ever driven.
+1
The turbo has the GT1 based block. If you know what that means, you will run from the C2 and embrace the TURBO. Need I say more. The turbo has a lot more options usually stock, holds it value, has the wing/spoiler/looks, and the brakes.
If you have a C2 and want more power, sell and buy is way, way smarter. IMHO. I have a turbo. I would not trust the M96 engine to hold that sort of power very long. Porsche does not race M96 cars anywhere AFAIK.....ask yourself why.....

Like I said, If he wants a slower, 400 pound heavier car, he should go with the stock TT and flash it. A blown C2 of the same year as yours, delivers more horsepower than does your stock TT. The blown 3.4 can easily be tweaked to produce enough additional power to keep pace with many of the stage 2 TT's. A stock TT is a boat compared to the C2 and it takes a hell of alot additional hp to overcome the additional weight and drivetrain loss.
Obviously, if the guy just wants to get into a car and get around the track, safer, with minimal driving skills, then the TT would be the choice. Afterall, isn't that why Porsche puts traning wheels on so many of their cars? It allows even the worse of drivers look better than they are.
If it's styling he wants, then the TT wins hands down.
But, that's just the real world. If you are dyno or keyboard racing....I guess you win.
Is the TT worth the extra coin? I am thinking about one now from an 04 C4.
I would be paying and extra 20k for an extra second 0-60 and a higher top speed. I have only ever gone a little over 160 mph.
It is the feeling that I could go higher in the pyramid that makes me want one. The practical side says stay put.
Club411 and everyone else, thanks for the replies. Club, if you are serious about the ride I'll definitely take you up on it sometime!
Here's the thing, I can't swing a TT at approx 60-70K or whatever they are going for. There is a local TT that its in great shape for a nice low price of about 45K- I'd be all over it if didn't have 86,000 miles on it!!!
I may just save up money over the next year or so and then look to trade up to the TT down the line and not dump any money into the 996, btw its a 01 C4, not a C2. Or just keep this one and lighly mod - suspension, exhaust, smaller stuff, and then keep to my possible plan of an elise down the line and turbo that bad boy, since its A LOT cheaper than s/c'ing a 996.

Unless a Carrera falls into my lap for a ridiculously low price, I am getting a turbo.
I find it funny how many people assume that if you can afford a 35-45K car that 60-90K is no problem... I am sorry but 25-45K is a good size chunk of cash.
This is really sidetracked from GunKata's orginal thread.
I love to hear how the aftermarket FI 996s are currently doing now also.
I would add...in Hindsight would the person do it again.
Seems to me that adding an S/C to a car has work time and time again for many brands. I too would like to hear first hand from people how they are performing.
I am considering a Porsche in the near future, and would like a high level of performance, currently I am looking down the 930 road, but I do love the surfaces on the 996, a big power option would be nice.

I will give you my .02 of my SC C2 and throw in a short story about my 425hp SC'd BMW M Roadster.
I bought the C2 last week but drove a TT a week prior. While I liked the TT a lot, I am 40yrs old and prefer the old school hang-the-***-out driving style of RWD. I also , and even thought the TT felt a bit like a brick winding up, felt the C2 to be quicker and more of a raw feeling. Keep in mind; my C2 has a cup-car coil over kit so the "feeling" part is certainly jaded but the suspension mods. Because the C2 is RWD, I felt like the car had a more willingness to go deeper in a corner and rotate a little sharper or faster if you will.
The kit on is by TPC racing, and while I would prefer the RUF kit (they live 3 miles away), the TPC kit is on and works well at 6psi. The exhaust is subdued and rather quite so it is a true sleeper. The kit makes 434hp(378rwhp & 350lb tq), has an aftercooler and comes with a boost gauge. It does need an AFR gauge to monitor stohic and WOT afr's which I have sitting on the bench and going in this weekend. I use the Innovative wideband dual o2 to monitor both banks and the lean/rich conditions.
Personal Preference:
Obviously the purchase of the C2! The power of the SC is very linear and consistent through the powerband and the dual cut gears light up with no lag or heavy roll-on at all.
Having a blown BMW M Roadster, I ran the Vortech kit at 6psi and cranked it up to 12psi last week. The C2 and cup suspension kit it in the *** but again they both feel very raw with a great level of road feel and input as the TT was badass but had a weightier ( is that a word) feel and a touring car thing about it. Maybe it was the added weight and AWD. I was very lucky to bling out on this loaded C2 so my thoughts may be a little jaded as most cars may not be modded this heavy and complete.
I have thrown in a pic of the Roadster for story points......the worst thing about the Roadster is that it will flat walk most Porsches like they are kiddies in a buggy with bad wheels and although it is fun to do it, I will eventually turn it out and remain a Porsche loyalest. Sorry if the post was long.
