Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
Just on the 1995 models (some 1996) -- wasnt due to rodents, is was due to materials (insulation) breakind down, national recall and replaced FOC.
Leading evidence: 'materials (insulation) breakind down, national recall and replaced foc' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'materials (insulation) breakind down, national recall and replaced foc' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace foc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

As far as I know the only electronic element not working is the oil level sensor, and that was because the shop said it didn't register when they changed the oil.

I told them to go ahead and replace the power steering tank, that has safety issues.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Took my new baby into the local dealer, Niello, for a 60K visit. $1K fee. Get the first call - leak in power steering tank, leak in pan gasket, should they purge the brake fluid? Get the next call - looks like the car had some rodents in the wiring..... $550 to find out the damage...... Can't wait to find out what's next!
On a lighter note, the car was serviced a number of times at Niello before I bought it. Including a new RMS just 2K miles before I got it.
my sentiments exactly! rodents wouldn't be a problem for a daily driver! right now I'm just hoping that I don't get "the call" tomorrow that tells me I need a new wiring harness...
I don't know if I'd have them do anything at all with the electrical system if there are no problems apparent. I suppose there is the slight risk that an electrical short could pop up and burn your car to a crisp, but that seems relatively unlikely.
I would investigate the leaks personally and if you are not qualified, get a second opinion from an indy. It's perfectly normal to get some degree of seepage from anywhere there is a gasket, o-ring or other form of seal retaining fluid. If you haven't seen oil on your garage floor or dripping off of the components in question, I wouldn't worry about it.
On the other hand, if you are extreemly **** about your car, thank them for the recommendation, get it fixed, and ask them to look for any other areas that may need attention. Be sure to tip the tech for having your best interest at heart.

For the case of this newly purchased car, I would have a serious chat with the place you purchased it from about some of these items that require attention.
I told them to go ahead and replace the power steering tank, that has safety issues. The pan gasket I'll wait and see. Went ahead and authorized the work to assess the electrical wiring. As far as I know the only electronic element not working is the oil level sensor, and that was because the shop said it didn't register when they changed the oil. No idiot lights on, no telltales when they connected to my onboard computer... We'll see later today. I'm definately going to an Indy shop next time. I'm not paying $150+/hr for a mechanic...
Your story was not funny...but the mice issue made me laugh hard...sorry...and then I remember a film that we all should see - it's called the Porsche and the rat. Hahaha...priceless.

Well, oil pressure was good. no idiot lights were on.
Luckily there was enough wire left to reattach the connectors without splicing wires. So, my 60K service cost me a mere $1878. On a brighter note, I had them make copies of all of the records for service that they had done previously on the car, and only 4K miles ago the RMS was replaced and a new clutch and flywheel were installed, as well as a few other niggling things. Now I have done my penance with a pcar dealer. Any other work will be done by an indy that doesn't charge $150+/hr.
