Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The problem is intermittent now that the car has been driven on two consecutive days
Leading evidence: 'intermittent now' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'intermittent now' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check by a pro' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Not to scare you but they replaced my motor as a result.

Any idea if this is a difference between 3.6L and 3.4L motors, or should I get this checked by a pro.

Anyway, I walked next door and check the neighbor's 2001 Carrera.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I have a question about my 2002 Carrera. I can hear a pronounced "rattle" or loud gear driven sound coming from the engine in front of the rear wheel. The easiest way for me to describe this noise is "clackety."
I hear it most on the left side, but that is where I am always getting in and out of the car. I think it is the same noise I hear when I put in the clutch coming to a stop.
Anyway, I walked next door and check the neighbor's 2001 Carrera. Hers does not have this rattle. Any idea if this is a difference between 3.6L and 3.4L motors, or should I get this checked by a pro.
FWIW, the car has great oil pressure, does not overheat, and makes good power. 43k on the clock. This car is driven occasionally, maybe once a week.
The neighbor's Carrera was at idle and is a tip.
My neigbor's solution, drive the car more. Bless her heart! Me, I'm thinking anything from a weird 3.6L quirk, noisy chain tensioner, or something driveline related.
Thanks in advance for any advice or thoughts.
My 2003 had a similar sound in the same spot (sounded like it came from the drivers side just between the tranny and motor). Not to scare you but they replaced my motor as a result. You should get it checked by a reputable dealer.
itorque, so you know exactly what I am talking about! So this forum is like the doctor, I complain about a pain and it goes away. Did yours ever go away and/or appear intermittently?
FWIW, I took the car to Rennwerks today and Mike poked his head under. He said it didn't sound unusual, especially since it was really faint and we had to start the car several times to get it to make the noise. A possibility he said was a tensioner bearing. I will see if it is there tomorrow. The part I left out was the car had been sitting for two months before this started up. Same recommendation, drive the car. In my defense, the original battery was dead......
