Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
You'd be better off changing the gear set so that 5th and 6th are lower.
Leading evidence: 'Replace gear' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace gear' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Suggestion
I decided not to change gear sets as the costs were close to what Ed listed above and pretty much overkill for a DE/street car IMHO.

You might want to change others as well but 5&6 for sure.

There aren't many (or any that I found) options for changing the R&P.

Is it easy to change the ring and pinion of any 996 transmission?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Larry,
I found it and sent it a few minutes ago.
I haven't driven the cup car since Sebring but we're going to Topeka this weekend. It's a lot of fun. I'm still hoping to make it to the Glen this year but it's not looking good. It couldn't be at a worse time. If not, hopefully we can hookup at Road America.

Is it easy to change the ring and pinion of any 996 transmission? what would you change it to say if you wanted a top speed of only 160 mph?
is there any downside/cautions or risks to doing this for street use?
It is 3.444444.
Pete,
There aren't many (or any that I found) options for changing the R&P. For a street car it probably wouldn't be a very good idea anyway. You'd be better off changing the gear set so that 5th and 6th are lower. You might want to change others as well but 5&6 for sure.

Larry,
Thanks for all your help..... I decided not to change gear sets as the costs were close to what Ed listed above and pretty much overkill for a DE/street car IMHO. That and my wallet was screaming ouch already.....
I did go with the some upgrades to strengthen the tranny like steel synchros, billet forks, etc.
Thanks again for your help.
