So, I have to remove the 2001 double cupholders and I need to replace with the newer Satin black, slide-out cupholders.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyhow, I am putting in the Pioneer Avic-D3 navigation unit (with rearview camera, bluetooth phone, ipod etc).... http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/portable-...ers-226735.php So, I have to remove the 2001 double cupholders and I need to replace with the newer Satin black, slide-out cupholders. I found them on Dcauto.com listed for $190.00 Anyone worked with these guys? Here are pics off the ones I'm getting rid of and the ones I'm buying, as well as the (just released) Avic-D3. You can also change the colors of the display to match the Porsche-dash perfectly.

POST 2Original post

Most of the stuff they sell is salvaged from wrecked cars. I assume you're aware of that (probably not a flood car ;-). I got seals for my cab from them and they were just fine.

POST 3Original post

What else are you doing to make them fit? they are NOT plug and play on 99-01 cars.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any suggestions? I could just take it in and pay the guy to put it in along with the stereo...

POST 5Original post

Oh Gant.....why didn't you ask if it would fit before buying it? The interior is different as well. 99-01 have gloss finish and the 02+ have matte finish. As for trying to fit it, you will need some sort of bracket, etc., since it requires a pushing action to have it release so you need to make sure it is bolted down good. If you want my opinion. Get rid of it and figure out something else for cup holders. This is going to take some serious modification and $$$ to get it to fix. You are trying to put a round peg into a square hole.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, for $80 i'll give'er a go. If I can't get it, I'll just ebay it, or sell it to a rennlist member.

POST 7Original post

so you're also changing from 2 cup holder to one? oh btw what did you do with your other ones.......?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, that one pulls out into 2 cupholders. I suppose I'll save the other ones, incase I want to return it to factory, to sell. Here's a pic I pulled off the internet of a 2001. This is going to be tough!!

POST 9Original post

Trust me, the two dashes are different. You're better off just getting rid of the cupholders all together instead of trying to create something.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Navi unit is smaller then the 2 slots. Im going to see if I can retrofit it. If I can't, I'll unload it on Ebay.

POST 11Original post

hi gant, well, i bought a less expensive driver, 99 996, with red interior to go a year or two till the c4s comes into budget. but as to dc auto,- they used to be here in ct, and robert the owner is FIRST CLASS. i spent 4k with him one day in 2003 on mods before my 964 was even delivered. that said, as the other posters have said, these substitutions are incredibly tricky, and quite often are not plug play. but for 80 bucks, it's not a life ender if it doesn't fit. regards bob

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bob, I hope your car is everything you wanted. I also hope your son loves it!! Thanks for the info on these guys!! Yours, Gant

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dell, you were right. The cup holder wouldn't fit. It's going up on ebay.

POST 14Original post

What the item number? That is if it's the 99-01 cup holders I'm going to bid on this

POST 15Original post

Oh well. It was worth a shot right? I don't see any reason why you woldn't get what you paid for it as cup holders for some reason bring a premium in the 996 community.
