Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, New to the forum. I just got rid of my 02 boxsterS and am now on the hunt for a 1995-98 993 cab or a 1999-2003 996 cab. Besides the obvious differences in the 98-99 models, can you guys give me some pointers on which is the best year, options to look for, problems to look for, ect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John

POST 2Original post

I think most people would agree that it is a good idea to buy the newest one you can afford. This does not account for a potential preference for a 993 however.

POST 3Original post

I have owned both a 993 and a 996. The 996 is a much more modern car and much more comfortable for daily driving. I do prefer the looks of the 993. The 996 has proven itself to be cheaper to maintain, but it is not a big difference. The real question is how you are going to use it and how much money do you want to spend. The best advice is always to get the newest Porsche you can afford. These cars are improved each year and you want to take advantage of that.

POST 5Original post

Some people like cats, some like dogs. A few like both. I think the choice here is analogous to that. So much has been debated about the relative merits of 996's and 993's that I have to conclude that one's selection says more about the person and not the cars. Try both out and see which car appeals to you more.
