Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I run Bridgestone Potenzas and did a DE event on a pretty technical track last weekend (

Suggestion
At 70 degrees, I'd start at 33 back 35 front and check freqeuntly.

Evidently you can't post links until you've been here awhile...after a set number of posts, I would guess.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently bought a '99 996 and tried to post my impressions of the car v. the two air cooled cars I've had, but kept getting some message saying I couldn't post links, which I wasn't doing so I gave up.
Anyway could someone please tell me the preferred tire pressure for Bridgestone Potenza tires for an autocross event?
I expect the temp to be in the 70's and the car is stock.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Andrew
Welcome! I'm new too (1 week Friday). we have a similar history. I started w/a 1990 964 and started my DE career in 2001. I sold the '90 964 and after a stint, bought a 92 964 race car and now do club races as well as others.

My rule of thumb has always been to have my tires at 40 psi hot. At 70 degrees, I'd start at 33 back 35 front and check freqeuntly. At least that's what I do for my DE street tires.
hey congrats and welcome......... Now let me be the first to admonish you guys for posting without pics.......
here are the following rules and i know Tim is going to jump in later on....
1. say hi..... then POST PICS of your new gorgegous babes.....
2. tell us about your new ride, then POST PICS of the description......
3. POST PICS......
i think i got it all.........but again, welcome, enjoy your ride, you'll love this place... it's the bible for ALL P-car owners.......
I've settled on 38f/38r *cold* for AX, and I've tried many different combos.
Never seem to build a lot of heat in them.
I run 36f/38r street. Got 15k usable miles out of rears at 40psi and they still wore most in the center, prob about 28k on my fronts (36psi)
ROW 030.
Congrats on the '99!
There is no way I'm expecting to get mileage like that. I live in western NC and the roads here are world class. Just too twisty for tires to go more than 4-6000 rear and maybe double that up front. I don't commute in the car- not really pactical for a contractor, but plan to do a few hundred miles a week just playing around on the Blue Ridge Parkway etc.
I'm not going to post pics until I personalize the car a bit. It is bone stock, red and just so pedestrian- especially compared to some of the fine rides I've seen here.
Thanks for the replies on pressure. It always amazed me in m/c roadracing how many would pay a fortune for bling and power they couldn't handle and have no idea what tire pressure to run.
gix - congrats and welcome. I think you need a minimum of 5 posts to be able to post a link or pics!
Pics? Did someone say PICS???? Yes, we need pics! Post a couple of "the car is stock" pics so we can totally appreciate the mods you do later. No pics = no help or answers in the future! Just kidding!
Can you tell tht we REALLY like pics?
Seriously, once again welcome to Rennlist and contrats on getting the 996!
Point is I wasn't trying to attach anything.
I'll try to rewrite and re-post my thoughts some other time.
I know you're all hanging on breathlessly.................
Mostly I adore it!
Great site.
I know what you mean.
I'll be in Blowing Rock next Thursday thru Sunday with 150 other folks (65 pcars)
221 just south of Blowing Rock is one of our faves.
But you should realistically get 10k from your rears and 22k or so on fronts from quality rubber.
Congrats again on the 996!
Congratulations on your new ride and welcome!
I run Bridgestone Potenzas and did a DE event on a pretty technical track last weekend (
Shenandoah Circuit
). It had an outside temp of somewhat >70F. I did experiment quite a bit with different tire pressures and thought that my car felt almost perfect at 32F and 36R (cold).
Congrats and welcome to the club. I have a 99 996 also, with a 2006 engine, and just love the car. Lets see some before and after pictures. Rennlister really, really, really like to see pictures, almost as much as they like to talk about oil. BTW Only use 0W40.
Kevin, or anyone else coming to WNC.
Feel free to pm me and I'll try to get up w/ you and show you some awesome roads closer to Asheville/ Waynesville.
Wives/ girlfriends can enjoy a day at Biltmore and the guys can go for a spin.
Not sexist btw, any girls are ALWAYS welcome.
Just don't ask me to go to Deal's Gap- I owned that place on a 600, but just am not ready for it in the 911.
Cheers, Andrew
