Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Any key on ebay CAN be just the shell...Even if they are selling you the keyblade too just use the shell...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have two keys that are perfectly fine (one with the older 2 button head the other with the newer 3 button head), but the key head is kinda messed up. It works, but it'd be nice if it were freshened up. Is there a way to replace just the buttons part (and if possible, I do mean just the part with the buttons on it, I don't need the whole head) so it doesn't need to be reprogrammed? If so, does anyone know what that costs?
I see on ebay the uncut keys go for about $70. I was hoping maybe from a dealer I could get a new official shell for less than that (can't find shells on ebay).
What do you mean? Any key on ebay CAN be just the shell...Even if they are selling you the keyblade too just use the shell...
I know that you cant get just the keyhead from the dealer. When you get the keyhead it comes with the circuitry. This is around $95. IF you didnt want to switch over the guts and blade then you would have to buy another blade, have it cut, and then program the remote.
If you're willing to switch the guts, buy whatever is cheapest, even if its the whole damn key!
Some ebay examples that would all work:

Right, I'm willing to switch the guts and all, I was just thinking that maybe I could get a keyhead alone from a dealer for cheaper than an entire key on ebay...I guess I underestimated the premium for buying parts at a dealer.
Because you have an older model(like me) that doesnt have electric locks...
Our hood and trunk are cable driven and the 02+ have electric. On their key they have a button to release the hatch.
the 3 button is for convertable i think?
Actually the third button releases the engine lid...but on my parents' 2002 it doesn't actually do anything...but the remote looks nicer than the 2 button ones (instead of being a smooth plastic it's rubberized). The dealer my dad bought the car used from threw it in since it only came with one key, which was a two button (1 button for the locks, 1 button for the trunk lid).
