The engine had the IMS failure and engine was replaced by Porsche under warrantee (a year or two after I purchased the car in 2010).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have owned this 2004 C4S cab for about 10 years. Canadian market car with approx 66,000 km (41k miles), Cobalt blue with black interior and fairly well equipped (hardtop, sport techno wheels, white gauges, factory PSE, factory quad tail pipes, sport seats, bose, small aluminum package, painted centre console, wind deflector, heated seats etc). The engine had the IMS failure and engine was replaced by Porsche under warrantee (a year or two after I purchased the car in 2010). It has always been serviced at the local Porsche center in Toronto, with a clean car proof (no accidents/original paint). Always was a keeper, but my new car (991 speedster) is in a completely different time zone and I am have not driven the C4S cab much this year as a result. I am considering selling it if the numbers are right. Question is: what would be the right range for a car like this? I know the color, spec and mileage make it rare, but also know there are lots of C4S's out there. Tkx in advance

POST 2Original post

Im not sure how the Canadian market is but in the US my guess is around $30K. What’s the IMS status of your replacement engine? If it was just replaced with an engine equally prone to failure that’s going to decrease the value. M

POST 3Original post

How much are you looking to get for it? very Nice car. Engine for me not an issue. but like said IMS ?'s will abound. Love Cobalt. Friends had Boxster S/and GT3 same color one of many great Porsche Blue's. Mines not at 41K yet, but it's nice having a relatively low mileage car, I don't have many repairs, more upgrades feasible. Good Luck, Mike

POST 4Original post

I think your floor is $30k US. Well marketed on BaT, color, mileage, including hard top and factory sports exhaust, $35k is not out of the question. Be prepared to address the IMSB question regarding the replacement engine. I own both a 996 4s and a 997.2 4s so i'm obviously partial, but your car is gorgeous. Being in Canada do you happen to own rear rims for snow tires (10 x 18) vs the stock summer rear rims (11 x 18)? I've been on the hunt for nearly a year to no success. Good luck and how bout some pictures of the 991 speedster!!

POST 5Original post

I believe Cobalt Blue was a $3,000 option in 2002.

POST 6Original post

** I think the big white circles and whatever the yellow thing on the drivers side fender are going to detract from the sale price... Sorry to be a downer but those "features" certainly are not for everyone (then again, for the right buyer maybe they are "features"...)... GLWS

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the feedback. I suspect $30,000 - $35,000 is the range, and if so, I think the 996 C4S is the bargain of the century. Probably the last 911 that came out of the box "just right", meaning you dont need any special options or specifications to make it perfect. I would say the speedster hits the mark in that respect too but not the same value proposition

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My attempt at a what now is called the "heritage" package. Inspired by a 60s Ferrari (I think it was a 250 lusso) but couldnt get the yellow band to fit/look right so I just kept it on one fender. The look has really grown on me, and I like the asymmetry. Definitely not to everyone's taste, but one could say 996s are also not to everyone's taste...

$32,000 - $36,000 Get professional images if possible. Do underside photos as well. Have oil analysis history ready with your documentation. To pull the big money, be ready with documentation to be sent electronically, in today's market buyer's are going to want to know everything GLWS -David.

POST 11Original post

I love the roundels...or maybe I'm just lusting after that Speedster! Agree though, this car would be pristine without the added graphics and would definitely do better on BaT without them. Be ready to address whether or not the car was tracked if folks dig up those photos during the auction. I doubt it was, but the graphics will definitely illicit questions about DE sessions. GLWS...if you decide to. Such a special (and different) set of cars. Splurge for a lift and call it a day. I guarantee you that driving that C4S will put many smiles on your face down the road!

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 16824626

I am curious about your statement about being tracked. This is a Porsche that is nearly two decades old. Are you insinuating that tracking a Porsche 996 is going to hurt its resale value? What are you comparing, perhaps a garage queen with little documentation on service against a car that every time it attends a track event has to go through a rigorous PCA Tech Inspection that is then part of it's permanent records. If over revs are a concern, I don't ever remember seeing any technical articles written on over revs comparing cars that have been tracked and ones that have not. Please share your thoughts, as my car has about 10 track days, and I can't see any relevant data that it will effect resale value in the eyes of someone who understands a Porsche 996. -David

POST 13Original post

I agree with your vigorous defense of a well maintained Porsche with only 10 DE sessions However after watching numerous auctions buyers will pay up for garage queens and try to beat up higher mileage and/or tracked cars. Its not always logical but you should anticipate inquiries. More photos of speedster please.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 16824801

I don't think I'm insinuating anything, especially not in generalities about the 996 overall. My opinion...again mine...others may feel free to chime in with theirs, is that in the OPs case for a 1. Low Miles, 2. Rare Color/Original Paint, 3. Semi-Rare Model 996, 4. In a BaT Auction setting...yes track days would definitely introduce perceived buyer risk and thus could affect resale value. The comment came from the roundels on the OPs C4S. Many on BaT might not see the design language from the Speedster shining through and might just see a meatball presumed to at one point have had a number on it from the track. As far as relevant data to what can affect the value of a 996, just take a look at the proctology exam that is a BaT auction! Ouch! I also don't know that highlighting a "rigorous" tech inspection would hold water to many potential buyers. Tech varies by PCA chapter and by DE organizer, and the only maintenance item that I've seen tech certify beyond validating functional operating condition is an annual brake fluid change...and that was a self-certification of last fluid change date. We're not talking about PCA, NASA, SCCA log books here and timing out parts by track hours on an established schedule. Tech Inspections don't prove up any documentation of service or maintenance, only operating condition on the day of inspection. Value is all about fitness for use as perceived by the buyer. If a buyer is planning to track the car, then performance mods and having been through tech may even be a plus. If the buyer is looking for a nice condition or unusual car to show off at cars & coffee, then the inevitable paint chips from DE's may not be a plus. Unless we are talking about dedicated track cars, BaT buyers seem to more often fall into the latter category. Nothing against the track. HPDE is one of the great benefits of being part of PCA and whether you run with PCA or other groups is a great opportunity to explore the capabilities of a 996.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I am leaning towards selling the 996 (photos at the top of the thread). It basically got moved a few times to get at something else. The car deserves better, Plan to list it shortly

POST 17Original post

I think itll be worth at least $3k more without the white dot.

A 99 Cab just went for 20k on BaT with 100k miles. I think this will do well assuming its all sorted.
