Turn it off and set your bass to 0 or below and you'll be much happier with the thumping.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I have a new to me 2001 Carrera 4. The audio is awful - the bass is way over boosted and distorts easily, even when I turn it down to -3 on the CDR220 headunit. Both doors rattle at the same time, especially if theres anything in the pockets. Its completely miserable.
As far as I can tell the system is completely factory. I dont know if there was a factory sub on the non-Bose option but I dont see one anywhere.
Ive read that there are many different factory audio options so I dont know how to describe what I have, other than the CDR220 head unit, speakers on the dash, speakers on the doors, and speakers on the side of the rear seats.
I know how to change a headunit and add Bluetooth, but thats it. Would the ridiculous bass be a problem with the headunit, the speakers, or both? My hope is that once I solve that the rattle will disappear, but Id appreciate tips there, too.
Thanks - Im at my wits end with this.
I'm guessing the speakers are shot. I have a 2000 with factory HiFi option and it sounds pretty good. Check in the frunk to see if you have an amp. It would be mounted on the firewall.
If you haven't checked already, see if your LOUD setting is activated. Play with the buttons, I think it's under the musical notes button. There should be a setting there called LOUD. Almost surely yours is ON. Turn it off and set your bass to 0 or below and you'll be much happier with the thumping. Good luck.
Just remember to replace with 2-ohm speakers. The most common is 4-ohm. You'll have distortion in the bass range and could explain your problem if the previous owner replaced them with aftermarket. You can still get the 2-ohm factory speakers from Porsche, but if you want to save some money, Crutchfield sells a 2-ohm 5.25 inch speaker rated at 2-ohms. The brand is PowerBass. Good luck!
