I actually thought he was under-charging me for shipping so I double checked with Frank.

In the late '70's when I started working on cars, we changed bulbs quite frequently, couple year time frame.

Suggestion
I installed mine in summer of 2012 and it is still working great as per my illumination check against the garage door after work yesterday.

Wyovino and Swedeman: did you also change the brake light bar to LEDs?

Now thinking about, I've only changed the stop bulbs in my Prius once in 12 years of use, The LED portion, which requires the entire light assembly replacement died at 8 years.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I believe there is little or no difference between the Depo and Dectane lights.
I'm looking to replace the tail lights on my 996 with LED ones. I've seen
these by Dectane
for $582 shipped from Germany (based on current exchange rates) and
these by Depo for $734
shipped from FVD Brombacher. Delrey Customs used to sell Depo lights but now seem to sell ones by a company called JAD that I've never heard of for $575.
Can anyone comment on the difference between the Dectane and the Depos, or whether the JADs are any good?
Thanks!
Slightly off topic (and I am not versed in LED taillights) but, if you order from Germany the vendor is not required to charge the MwSt. (sales tax) which is included in the listed price; so, that should be another 19% reduction. But, of course you'd be responsible for customs fees & taxes in the U.S.. Also looks like the euro is continuing to decline v. the dollar (at 1.15 now). GL with your project.
I have the Depo lights and they seem very well made. I believe there is little or no difference between the Depo and Dectane lights. I've never heard anything about JAD.
The German Dectane lights are made by Depo and are the same but under a different brand name, I have them on my car and they fit perfect and look great!
I put in the 5000 K festoons, they look great. I also switched out all the interior lights (most are T10 type). They dim to off like regular bulbs & look great.
FWIW I just installed my dectane lights and am very happy with the results.
I ordered mine from Orange Tuning in Germany for a better price than I could find locally. Frank was responsive to my emails and the product was packaged well and delivered to my door in Canada in 3 weeks. I actually thought he was under-charging me for shipping so I double checked with Frank. All good. Pictures on another thread here

Kevin;
As a fellow Cdn, do you mind if I pick your brain on the postage cost across the pond?
Did you pay what Orange charges on its website or did you get Frank to sweeten the pot somewhat? It seems like a decent price to start with.
Thanks!
Martin
Got my Dectane rears from Germany. The German guys were very helpful as I couldn't quite understand their website and delivery was super quick.
Good quality and fitted in less than 30mins
Apologies for the poor picture.
Got mine today!!!!!!
Love it...at first I was on the fence since the depo lights didn't feel right to me but now that there on I couldn't be any more assured that these were the right choice.
Hi Dave. I'm also in Waterloo. If you'd like to come take a look at them sometime just let me know.
I've had these on my car for 4 years now (wow) and have been super happy with them. They still look like new and I haven't had any problems with them at all. The quality seems to be as good as the OE lights.,
They look much more modern and update the look of the car significantly.
I've had my Depo tails for almost 7 years now and they still work and look great. I was actually shocked that I've had them that long, but I keep good records of all work done to my car.
Reviving this old thread..
Can anyone with these tail lights chime in on how long they've lasted through the years? Still having dead LED problems? Would you still recommend them several years later?
Hi Quadcammer, you are right. I did not realize it would bring the threads all the way back to front page. I should have just PM'd the individuals directly. I have PM'd the mods to see if they can delete my posts to bury the other threads. Did not mean to annoy you guys. Just looking for information is all. Thanks and have a nice holiday.
It has become a reliability thread...
In the late '70's when I started working on cars, we changed bulbs quite frequently, couple year time frame. Now thinking about, I've only changed the stop bulbs in my Prius once in 12 years of use, The LED portion, which requires the entire light assembly replacement died at 8 years. So LED's are cooler and use less power than bulbs, but are as yet less reliable? Small statistics. I'd have to believe its the circuit for the LED that dies rather than the LED itself.
I bought the lights from FVD Brombacher about 5-6 years ago. Haven't had the first issue with them. Still perform perfectly and look great. Would definitely purchase again.
I think I have these
