will definetly check on the wiring for the driver's seat when we put the seats on...

It actually controls the function of the seat back to change the angle.

On the drivers seat, there are separate wires that run from each motor and wires that run from the switches.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have already installed my 8-way power 996 seats in my 1981 928. I'm not sure of the exact year of the seats, but I know they are 2002+. At this point I do not care about hooking up the heat, I just want to hook up the power. Hooking up the power on the passenger seat was a piece of cake. The driver's side is much more difficult. The power wires are connected through the memory control unit. I've been told that in order to hook up the power for the driver's seat I need to buy new seat switches that are not made for seats with memory. I am hoping that I can possibly rewire the driver's seat myself without buying new switches. The problem is, I'm not sure where to start. Can anybody help me with the wiring and let me know what exactly I need to do? The harness in the 928 is very simple, it has one positive wire and one negative wire. I do not want to hook up the memory.
Thanks,
Casey
casey, my dad and i are also planing on installing 996 seats in our 83 928. my question is, how did you fit the 996 slider-rails to the 928 base??? i know that the 928s are flat while the 996s are bent in front...thanks chasen
On the angled part, I bent it so it was flat. I then made brackets. One for each rail is 18 in long, 1.5 in wide, and mine is 1/4 in thick. I suppose the metal wouldn't have to be quite that thick. I mounted the metal brackets to the 928, and I then mounted the 996 seat to that. I did not do anything to the rail of the 996 besides bend the sloped part so it was straight.
I still need to figure out the wiring for the drivers seat. I just need to figure out a way to make the drivers seat work like the passenger seat. It seems like it could be done, I'm just not sure how.
I might be able to round up some pictures, not sure if I kept them. The wiring for the passenger seat was extremely easy, I just connected positive to positive and negative to negative. I may take a picture of the wiring next time I work on the car.
I don't care about hooking up memory or heat, just power. I can't hook up the power on the drivers side as easily as I could on the passenger side because there aren't any obvious power wires. On the passenger side, there is one red and one brown wire--both thicker and obviously the power wires. On the drivers seat, there are separate wires that run from each motor and wires that run from the switches.
All of these harnesses were connected to the memory control unit. As you can see, there aren't any obvious connections for the power. The black and white wires on the LS, HV, and HH harnesses are slightly thicker than the red and brown wires. Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
I think these wires run to the switches...
These go to the motors.
Looking back on it I wish I would've got some manual seats. The seats are in great shape, but this is becoming too much work. It sounded so handy in the auction, but I haven't driven my car in months and can't wait to get it back on the road. I would just install the seat and not worry about the power functions, but the seat is power reclined all the way forward! So, it's stuck like that until I hook the power up.
Chasen, I took a picture of the brackets I made before the drivers seat was installed.
I am going to end up having to buy new switches for the drivers seat to make the power wok. So, I figured out which harness controlled what and I hooked up a separate battery to each harness and got the seat in the position that I find comfortable. It will stay like this for a while, I can at least drive my car now.
thanks for the pics will definetly try to test it out soon. it's been a long project for my dad and i....hopefully after the seats are in, we can really start to enjoy the car a whole lot more....
By the way, in the top picture that I have labeled "Switches" the harness on the left does not control the switches. It actually controls the function of the seat back to change the angle.
