My first thought is that like most modern electronics, there's not a lot of "repairing" that's possible.

If so, where can I send it (does anyone have a place they know does good auto nav repair work)?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Took out OEM PCM from a 2002 996, and the CD changer too, from the trunk area.
Error on nav was "CD is upsdie down." Disk is fine. PCM head is otherwise fine (radio/phone/cassette kept working/changer too). I took it out and put in a 3rd party unit by Pioneer.
Questions:
1. Can I get the CD based navigation computer fixed. I am guessing it is the laser? If so, where can I send it (does anyone have a place they know does good auto nav repair work)?
2. What is this stuff worth (fair price)....OEM CD changer. OEM, error code producing, CD "Navigation Computer" unit. OEM, unscratched head unit from a PCM (radio/interface/cassette just fine). It is a lot "cooler" looking than a stock radio IMHO.
Thanks in advance all. BTW, the pioneer I chose is great, but the black in it's case is not a perfect match.....wish I could have figured out how to fix the CD nav computer. No one answered my posting before.
I am thinking of put it up for sale, have no idea what to ask (CD nav unit is probably easy to fix for the right person).
TIA.

Have you checked with the Porsche Dealer?
My first thought is that like most modern electronics, there's not a lot of "repairing" that's possible. These things tend to be so expensive to dissassemble and repair that most people just replace.
Did. New unit $2240 installed. Only the CD reader/computer seams dead. The double DIN PCM seems to have worked fine (casette/radio/nav GUI part). This was the 3400$+ option in 2002, so my hope is that someone out there needs a new unit. I would state clearly the "upside down error" is the issue and leave it at that. I just want to sell for enough to perhaps get an iPhone or a couple of tires.
:-)
The shop that advertises in Panorama for Becker CD220's said about 300$ to fix over the phone FWIW.
