Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The 99 front wheel carrier is the same so I can't understand either why you are having problems running against your caliper.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Got some new wheels for my 1999 996 cab...fronts are 8.5 x 18 ..rears 10x 18 front offset is 52.... rear is 58 the fronts are touching the caliper and will need 5/7 mm spacers.. the rears look perfect... how are the wheels "sitting" compared to stock with the fronts with the spacers and rears without?? heres another question.... by putting 5/7 mm spacers on the front, will the fronts be "out" too far compared to the rears??? will then the rears need spacers too to look right??? obviously i cannot eyeball it because i cannot install the fronts yet as i don't have the spacers... Thanks you very much in advance>>> Anyone have a pair of 5/7 mm hubcentric spacers to sell???

POST 2Original post

J, I have a factory set of 18"s on my my 2000 cab and the offsets on those are 52/65 so I am puzzled why you are rubbing on your 52 fronts unless the '99 hubs are different or the wheel design is not 'P' car specific. If you do space, it looks like will be roughly 7mm wider both front and rear than my setup which I assume would look and perform OK. RB

POST 3Original post

The 99 front wheel carrier is the same so I can't understand either why you are having problems running against your caliper. Pics would probably help in a case like this. I assume these are aftermarket wheels? That would be the first problem since we have no idea how the barrel sits. While the sizes and offsets are actually PERFECT you state they don't fit. So you see why we would be puzzled.

POST 4Original post

Is this a Porsche wheel? I have used a range of factory wheels up front: 18x8 ET50 and ET52, 18x7.5 ET 52, 18x8.5 ET50 all w/o any clearance issues with the brakes. Do you by chance have aftermarket brake calipers? or Big Reds from the Turbo?

POST 6Original post

Strange. The OEM is 8" with 50mm offset. The 8.5" with 52MM offset would give you 8mm LESS interior clearence and the outside of the wheel will EXTEND by 4mm compared to OEM size. A 5mm spacer will mean that the wheel will EXTEND 9mm more than the OEM size. Rears 65mm OEM versus 58mm on your new wheels. New wheels will EXTEND 7 mm more than OEM wheel. So no, the fronts will not be "out" too far compared to the rear wheels. Only 2mm difference and you will never notice it. Rubbing on the calipers does not make sense. The other guys ( ^ ) questions & ideas need to be adressed. Pics would help.

POST 7Original post

What kind of wheels are these? What are they designed to fit? Despite the offset, it they are build for a Mercedes or a BMW with with single piston brakes then the spakes may not be deisgned to clear our brakes. I had this problem when I put 4-pistion Skyline brakes on my Maxima. As a result I had to be very choosey with aftermarket wheels. With a 996 this should not be a major issue as there are a lot wheels designed to fit these cars.
