Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I have also developed a procedure to use alternate bearings from another European engine in the M96.
Leading evidence: 'Use alternate bearings' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use alternate bearings' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

WTF-cannot "PRY" anyone into seeking oversized bearings for 996 engines??
is this the end of the line............everything is now throwaway?
I have an engine room ready to do them and no parts to make it happen??%&*
HOw is it that no one has already been looking?
We are having oversize main and rod bearings made. I have also developed a procedure to use alternate bearings from another European engine in the M96. Its just a matter of time and demand. We had to have them for our engine program.
Clevite won't do it... I called them two years ago.
Three months... I've been working on this for a year developing the materials and etc and doing evaluations on the samples.
The stock cranks MUST be re-heat treated after any machining procedures are completed to under size them as the factory penetration is less than .010
I can restore most cranks (back to STD) that have lost a journal, as long as the crank isn't cracked or isn't bent more than .004
If crank otherwise ok, can stock crank mains/rod bearings be ground undersized just a skosh and then hardchromed and ground to size?
Sincerely,
Macster.
not sure if that was a "dis" about the three months vs "year" thing.....As u, I'm working this everday..........for the last 43 years. As the prices are going up rapidly on "remans" from the factory, I am now seeing a desire to save a few dollars and rebuild myself. Glad to use your experience and services though. I was simply expressing my dismay as to the attitude Porsche has on purchasing rebuilding parts now and into the future for this engine series.......that's it!
again........if I can obtain bearings and other parts from u, so much the merry.
I have a crank that lost the rod, oil starvation.......u mentioned that this is something that u specialize in?
More than likely we can save the crank, I've done it several times over the last year. One crank that had been repaired and stroked at the same time saw 11,000 track miles this year alone.
We have not and will not depend on Porsche to supply engine update and rebuild components. I am working to the point where we can be self sufficient for all items necessary to reconstruct an engine except a gasket set.
