I had a battery that was not dead, but old and a bit tired, I let the charge-o-mat run for 24 hours and it still had not kicked over to the full battery indicator.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey, all, My '00 C2 drained its battery in four weeks of sitting in the underground parking lot. I finally found a spot the building management would let me plug the car in for a day and bought a Charge O Mat. The car was left on the charger for 33 hours before I had to move it. After 33 hours of charging, the 'partial charge' light was still on. Can somebody school me? Is there now something wrong with my battery? Or the Charge O Mat? Or is it normal to need more time than that to fully recharge? Thank you in advance. Bruce.

POST 2Original post

It's posssible it would take a long time for that little charger to top off a flat battery. They are meant to keep a battery topped off not to recharge a flat one. Just let it run and if your battery is OK it will eventually fully charge it .

POST 3Original post

Bruce- I had a battery that was not dead, but old and a bit tired, I let the charge-o-mat run for 24 hours and it still had not kicked over to the full battery indicator. I then cycled the charge-o-mat through powering it off then back to the appropriate car setting and when I did that, it switched over to the full. I have spoken with a few other people and theirs reacted the same way. So my suggestion, cycle it through the power and see if that does it. But like RayGT3 said, with a dead batter, it certainly could take that long to charge it up from dead.

POST 4Original post

Have you tried to start your car after the first 24 hour period? I had the same issue last year but the car did start well even as the charger didn't show that the battery was fully charged, so I just drove a little longer before I turned off the engine and since then, everything is fine.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup, it started right up as normal. Which was interesting, because when I jump started it off my Land Rover, it turned over quite slowly. I have a feeling it takes some serious juice to start these cars. The size of the battery would be a clue, I guess... zose, thanks, I'll try that.
