Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The odometer is a bit high at 48k miles, but the engine had just been replaced about 3000 miles ago (no worries of the RMS!).
Leading evidence: 'Replace about 3000 miles ago (no worries of the rms!)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace about 3000 miles ago (no worries of the rms!)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello! I wanted to introduce myself and my first Porsche.
I had been driving the BMW 330 for the last five years. I took it to the track in my third month of ownership, and fall into that bottomless pit without looking back. Over the last 4.5 years, I spent enough on track days and associated consumables to buy another car all over again. No regrets though, you only live once.
I had been casually looking for an impractical weekend fun / track car with more horse power for quite a while. I had done many track modifications to my 330, but since that is also my daily driver, I feel that I really want to get a dedicated fun / track car, and turn my 330 back into a more civilized form. The cars that particularly drew my interst were the elise, the BMW MZ4, Cayman S, and Porsche 996. If the choice were entirely up to me, my choice would be the Cayman S, with the 996 being a close second. There is nothing like having the engine sitting right behind you. The weight distribution was also more netural and similar to the BMW that I am very familar with. However, the decision was not entirely up to me. The wife demanded a four seater so we can take the car out on the weekends with the baby (we are trying and hopefully we will have one soon). That made the decision easy between the Cayman S and the 996. By the way, I also feel that the Cayman S is not priced right, especially now that the Boxster will have the same engine. But I guess I am just getting started to know about Porsches.
A friend of mine who has a 993 had been monitoring the rennlist classifieds for me. A few weeks ago he spotted one that really fits my criteria - relatively minimal on factory options, and good aftermarket track mods. The car currently has PSS9s, GT3 sways, and B&M short shifter in it. The odometer is a bit high at 48k miles, but the engine had just been replaced about 3000 miles ago (no worries of the RMS!). There is also an extended warranty on the car.
I do not plan on doing a lot to the car at this point. I am going from 220 hp to 320hp, 3400 lbs to 3000 lbs, and 50/50 distribution to 38/62 distribution. Yes, my learning curve at the track will start again. I just got the car on Thursday and I am still thrilled with the raw power and the low center of gravity. I got the back end loose a little bit but the car's response is very predictible and in control. In short, I now see what all the fuss on Prosche is really about.
Last night I removed the mufflers and did the pep boys mod. It does sound great, but the loss of low end torque is quite noticible, and I do not want to shift the car like a Honda VTEC. I also developed a headache quickly. I think I will most likey do the poor man PSE. I also plan on doing the garage door opener button and maybe the spoiler button to fill out some of those blank buttons. Maybe I wll hardwire a V1 too.
Now, I am off to looking for a set of banged up rims, so I can get some track shoes for my new toy!
I tried to post some pictures but I don't have the minimum number of posts required. Oh well, I guess I will update with pics later. EDIT - nevermind, it's something in my post that triggered the no links thing. I have no idea why since it's not a link. It did say BMW in it a few times
Welcome!!! Sounds like your mods are putting you right where you want to be for a great start at the track! The pics did come through. Nice. I may have missed where you are living. If you make it to Road America, say Hi.
Galun - Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting a very nice looking P-car.
Great intro and Pics!
You have become the new poster child for all the "Newbies" to emulate.
Thanks! I can't wait to take it to the track next week.
cchan, I am just one of the victims in your scheme to convert our whole BMW track group to p-cars. I gotta say you are making some solid progress though.
