Yeah, I completely hear you on the sunscreen, which I use all the time when parking in the sun.

I'm not aware of any good way of repairing these, folks seem to just deal with the crack or replace them , not an inexpensive option.

You might want to consider opting for a different wheel as you will be buying into the same problem if you replace with the fiber wheel.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just picked up my '00 996 C2 last week. What a blast!
Anyway, it has the Carbon Fiber p brake, shifter, and steering wheel. I've got some cracking at the top of the steering wheel. Is there a way to fix this? Or just easier to replace?
Thanks
Cracking seems to be a common problem based on the number of posts regarding this subject. I'm not aware of any good way of repairing these, folks seem to just deal with the crack or replace them , not an inexpensive option. You might want to consider opting for a different wheel as you will be buying into the same problem if you replace with the fiber wheel. I have the alcantara wheel and like it but everyone has their own personal tastes and comfort requirements.
Mine is cracked and have been told on several occasions by people in the know that it CANNOT be fixed. A real bummer because I feel it everytime I turn a corner. An OEM even on eBay runs $800 - 1,000. I have been looking for a "lightly used" one in Savannah Beige but to no avail.
This is dissappointing to read.
I really like the carbon fiber steering wheel, but I would be horrified if it were to crack - such an expensive piece, you wouldn't think it would crack.
I may go with just a full leather 3-spoke, since those are nice, too.
I too have a light crack along the top of my carbon fiber steering wheel. I was going to speak to the service advisor when I next bring it in for the spring thaw and see if the CPO warranty might be able to resolve the problem for me.
My wooden one has a scratch/crack in the clear coat, but nothing can be seen in the wood....my feeling based on NO data: sun shield in a big deal item if you leave it in parking lots in the summer.....

Yeah, I completely hear you on the sunscreen, which I use all the time when parking in the sun. However, the crack is there from when I first bought the car used. It's not that noticeable, but it drives me crazy knowing that it's there and I'd rather see if CPO will pay to fix it before it runs out.
MY 2000 was on the car new and although the leather on the sides is worn some, the CF still looks and feels great. I don't park in the sun though. Either my garage or inside garage ar work. I think the sun is the major issue. Spend the 800 to 1000 and get another one. The feel is great, even better than the look, IMHO.
