Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I place my key to position II (without cranking the motor) the electronic systems turns on, and I hear a buzzing noise from behind or near the glove compartment. When I place my ear up to the dash / passenger dash vent, I hear what sounds like a little motor running. What is back there? I think this buzzing is new... I tried searching the forum but came up empty handed. TIA

POST 2Original post

what's a glove compartment...... 99 don't have glove compartments.....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry, meant to say I had a 02 996. Guess it isn't really a glove compartment, but more of a place for manual storage.

POST 4Original post

The evaporator housing is back there...which has the blower motor and all the servo motors for the flaps. Does the noise change with blower speed? If so you might have something in the blower motor. Sometimes the servo motors go bad and cause a noise. Seems like the most common one to go is the recirc flap motor. The servo motor for the recirc flap is mounted to the evap housing on the side furthest to the passenger side. Try pressing the recirc button and seeing if the noise changes.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried the recirc button and I heard another motor start. Both are quite silent, and can only be really heard when the HVAC fan is off and the engine is off (but the car is on). Thanks for the input.
