These rims are growing on me (I originally was set on the Turbo Looks), but seeing how light they are, are they way more fragile compared to the Turbo Looks?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

These rims are growing on me (I originally was set on the Turbo Looks), but seeing how light they are, are they way more fragile compared to the Turbo Looks? I plan on driving on the NJ Turnpike - don't wanna get rims that bend at the sight of a pothole, etc!

POST 2Original post

Actually they are pretty strong. Best of both worlds. Strong and light. I know alot of guys track their cars with these wheels. And yes, they are ones that as soon as they grow on you, you gotta have em! Nice thing about these wheels is they really show off the rotors and calipers. Here's a pic of them on my 996CAB.

POST 4Original post

nice pick dell.. love that wife's car... but your GT3 rocks....

POST 5Original post

Thanks! Here's a snap I took with my camera phone when I dropped it off at the race shop to get the track setup done.

POST 6Original post

very nice dell.. you changed our some stuff....the rear spoiler and the wheels......i like it.,..

POST 7Original post

Those are my track wheels and tires and the wing is the new RS Carbon Fiber wing I just added this week. After track weekends I go back to the silver wheels but the wing stays

POST 9Original post

jealous.... you professors have all the fun....

POST 11Original post

love the black wheels...i'd keep them for the street too.....but I am partial to black wheels...

POST 12Original post

Hmmmm......now I miss my 5-spoke which I just sold them 2 month ago...

POST 13Original post

I love the black wheels for the street as well but I have R-Comps on those wheels and PS2's on my silver wheels. So silver it is for the street.

POST 14Original post

black is nice... i have black ones too... but i think i have fender rubbing issues..... but i like the black ones ........but i think i have fen....wait i already said that.....nevermind...... black wheels........

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Very sweet! Another 996 with Aero front and bottom - with no wing! I'm not at the "gotta have them" stage yet, but they are very modern looking. I do like the Turbo Twists though...are they stronger than the 5-spoke? Or will a pot hole kill either rim?

POST 16Original post

Be careful though if you decide to go turbo twists. They are in both wide body and narrow body offsets!

POST 17Original post

AndyK, Those 5 spoke wheels beside being light, the other thing I love about them is they are soooo easy to clean. You could easily reach inside the inner rims.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A very good quality in a rim! When I find the right car, hopefully it will have the rims I want at that time!

POST 19Original post

Tell me about it. I was "eh, there okay" to "damn I need to find a set" almost overnight. Felt like I hit the crack pipe or something.

POST 20Original post

I can almost change brake pads with the wheels on! I love these wheels -- - I think they look great on the old dinosaurs -- I painted mine a color very very close to seal grey. see my photo below

POST 21Original post

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Have you been smoking crack? Who'd want black wheels for the track and silver wheels for the streets?? And 5 spoke wheels at that???

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Very nice on the 993! The curvier body makes the rims stand out more, I think! They look good grey too...not overly bright against the black paint!

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, you track your 40th? Excellent - not keeping it in a museum and using it for what it was made for!!

POST 25Original post

Believe me, it's out of ignorance. I was too deep into it before I realized "I'm not supposed to". I bought the car as a daily driver.... before I became a trackoholic. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done it differently. Why didn't you guys tell me?? I figure I'll track this car for another year or so and then get a dedicated track car.... hopefully a 996 GT3.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, "why?" was the thought going through my mind after I typed my first message! Do you use the leather luggage as AutoX Cones??

POST 28Original post

your cars is gorgegous.... the little porsche emblem on the fenders look pretty sharp there.... how did you get it...?

POST 29Original post

just a noob question... why don't you want to track the 40th? is it just a little more luxurious then the other years? why buy it then?

POST 30Original post

Thanks!! That actually got some compliments and some frowns That emblem is actually just a sticker I played around with...you can buy from the dealership that has a silver shadow on the side which I just cut off.

POST 31Original post

very nice and unique..... you can put me down as compliments.......

POST 32Original post

In general, 996 C2 and C4 cars aren't as durable under heavy track use as the TT/GT2/GT3 variants. Of the 996 C2 & C4 models, the 40th anniversary is a heavily optioned car that has a lot of luxury goodies that are totally unnecessary for the track. When I bought the car, I had only been on the track once in my life and I thought "All Porsches are built like tanks. The $20k discount is a steal and if I decide to do more track events, the car can take it." I've since learned that all Porsches are NOT created equal. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't concern myself with having a navigation system, Bose, heated seats, 6-disc CD changer, etc. etc. etc. I would be more concerned with camber adjustability, sway bar adjustability, transmission durability, dry oil sump, etc. etc. etc.

POST 34Original post

AndyK, here's another reason the 5 spoke Carrera wheels are nice. They are SOOOO easy to wash. They look good and clean up quick. Nicer than the twists, I think.
