happy with the deal---new car, CPO, for less than 2/3 original price (I'm not even adjusting for inflation!

He is a very meticulous person and kept it extra clean---arguably, not that hard---and properly stored (correct tire pressure for storage, regular mini drives to avoid flat spotting, etc).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm still getting acquainted with the car, but so far the relationship has gotten to a very smooth and romantic start

2002 C2 CPO with

miles on the clock. Car is literally brand new inside out. No bells nor whistles: (almost) all I need, (almost) nothing I don't:
Arctic Silver Metallic
Arctic Silver Metallic Top
Black Partial Leather
Technic Package
Heated Seats
Power Seats
18" Carrera Wheels
Colored Crest Caps
Porsche Stability Management
I drove it
very gingerly
for another 50 miles on a PZero+below30F combo, while I waited for the Blizzaks. Driving on marbles is no figure of speech: even with dry pavement, grip and traction are severely reduced and the front end felt really light and not very communicative at all (I never pushed to the point of upsetting the rear, but felt that it wouldn't take much to get PSM kicking in). With the LM25's, it became a different car: they aren't broken in yet---only 100 miles on them---but traction, stability, and overall confidence increased enormously. I can now drive normally without having to worry about sensing traction limits when driving at 3/10ths
One thing I did find surprising was how quiet the LM25's are, especially for being winter tires. Cruising at 80mph was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience.
I'm looking forward to breaking in the Blizzies and getting something more out of winter driving, but true enjoyment will take place when spring arrives and the PZeros go back on

2900 miles, wow, I had 2900 miles on my 2002 in the first month of ownership!
Can you share what the history of this car is, and why it has essentially been in storage for 5 years?
If I could give you one piece of advice it would be that you should visit your local Porsche dealership's service center and discuss with them warranty arrangements for Porsche to pick up the costs of repair for when your Rear Main Seal (RMS) and Intermediate Main Shaft Seal (IMS) start leaking.
Your car was built during a time when these 2 seals as delivered from the factory were very prone to failure causing oil leaks from between the engine and transmission. Most 2002 996 have had problems with this seal leaking after about 7K miles.
Good news is that the problem has finally been solved (after 4-5 revisions of the seal).
The problem can in some situations require the engine to be changed out because of tolerance problems, so I would advise you to get in front of this with Porsche before it happens, given that it is very likely that your engine is all original.
Otherwise, this year 996 was very reliable and trouble-free. Enjoy your car.
OMG -- competition! SMG your car is beautiful - love the colors and the painted bumperettes. I wouldn't say yours has no bells and whistles, but a nicely optioned 996. My C4S has 1900 miles, but it's an '04, so on a MPY basis, you've got me beat. Enjoy and congrats!!

Thanks everyone for the comments --- too many for individual replies! --- I'll try to cover all points:
1. Original owner had a small collection of cars and, from what I understand, preferred to drive roadsters to coupes (don't ask me why he bought a 911 in the first place). He is a very meticulous person and kept it extra clean---arguably, not that hard---and properly stored (correct tire pressure for storage, regular mini drives to avoid flat spotting, etc). Within the confines of privacy, that's as detailed a description as I can give.
2. Does it absolutely need to be driven 10x more? Hell, yes!
3. Possible RMS issues. This has been discussed ad nauseum here, although I've never come across any hard stats (official or otherwise) for the frequency of the problem. Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest it's something that happens more often than not, especially for certain MY's. I don't know. The CPO does cover it, and it if happens outside it and I still have this vehicle, I'll deal with it. Discussing some pre-arrangement with the dealership is a possibility.
4. Car in snow. In principle, never. I put the Blizzaks on to be able to drive in extreme cold weather, including perhaps a very light coat of snow, but will not venture out in deep snow and/or with salt-seasoned roads.
5. Snow in CT. The weather has been crazy this year. We had a very long and strange fall, with the first bona fide winter days arriving mid January. The pics I posted were taken late in January, cold but still w/out snow.
Hope I've covered everything. Time to go out and drive (with a light coat of snow) !

Can't say enough good things about the LM25's. Driving with some common sense on these Blizzaks can still provide a lot of enjoyment. They are very progressive, and you can sense the limits without sudden surprises.
Here are a few (low res, sorry, just about maxed out my attachment limit) pics with the winter shoes on.

Just make sure you get the "Blizzies" off before the temperatures start climbing. You'll burn through tread very quickly if you don't. I know from experience...
Awsomely low miles - but, I assume you paid close to what the car cost new? Not that there's anything wrong with that!
I'm torn between the Turbo Look and the Carrera 18" rims. They are both so nice on silver cars!!
PS--Oreganet--What year is your car? Is that full OEM Aero, or just the sides? Do you have modded headlight surrounds??
Welcome. Great looking car. Are you leaving the front license plate braket on? You've got a couple pictures up now with the bracket on but no plate. I'd get rid of it.
Nice ride man. I love Artic Silver Im a little bias though. How this North East weather treatin you haha I cant even take my ride out. Neway good luck with it
Thanks for the comments and warm welcome
RE price, I paid precisely 64.9% of the original sticker value
. I am
very
happy with the deal---new car, CPO, for less than 2/3 original price (I'm not even adjusting for inflation!
)---and couldn't be happier with the car. Just wish the weather was better and that I had a little more free time to put more pavement under it...
I'm still getting acquainted with the car, but so far the relationship has gotten to a very smooth and romantic start
The acceleration is just so linear and driver involvement is the best I've experienced. The much lighter front (compared to all other cars, front/mid-engined, I've driven) is something I not only got used to, but also got to love; requires a bit more from the driver (which is good) but it's extremely rewarding. I probably have not driven beyond 5/10ths (a bit relative; I'm just an average "enthusiastic" driver), but so far I'm thrilled.
A few minor things I feel could be improved (read: upcoming mods):
Most important mod is the driver, and I also plan to work on it
On this note, time to go out for another drive (2nd today), before it starts snowing
So, basically the original owner bought it and stored it so you could buy it cheap in 5 years. Very nice!! That's the great thing about 911's, there are SO many with low miles. Now, GO OUT AND SHOW IT OFF!!!
... back briefly from 2nd spirited drive
gota911 -- yes, aluminum rings a must; will very likely be my first "mod", given price/ease of installation/effectiveness.
For the interior I'm thinking:
aluminum rings
aluminum pedal set
CF brake
CF shift ****
CF middle cover
CF tunnel console
The first two are cheap enough that they won't break the bank, but the CF bits are pretty costly, and I feel they should all be done at the same time (rather have stock look than partial CF; however, all too easy to go overkill with CF, IMHO). I'm also not sure whether to go Tequipment or otherwise (for truly good quality CF work, there doesn't seem to be much difference between OEM and non-OEM). In any event, the functional mods (shifter, etc) will all be done before the CF bits.
For pedals, I'm undecided between the Weissach and RevoZport sets (pics below). If anyone has any of these, please let me know how they're holding up
