I took a look at the fuse list inside the fuse panel and it appears that there's a 75 amp (!) fuse that's used for the reverse lights and other things, including the onboard computer.

I suspect either a microswitch of some type on the gear shift lever/linkage or perhaps a fuse.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Y'all I noticed last night while backing out of the garage that my reverse lights don't seem to be working. I have not checked the bulbs, but I doubt both would go out at the same time, so..... Any guesses on where to look first? I suspect either a microswitch of some type on the gear shift lever/linkage or perhaps a fuse. Or I guess I could just drive forward all the time; the car is much faster in the forward gears Thanks for the help.

POST 2Original post

I've been in the same boat for a few weeks now. I think I remember a previous post discussing this...a somewhat commone issue. I think there is a switch somewhere in the shifter area that needs replacing. I've been planning to do a search to figure it out.

POST 3Original post

My reverse lights are also out. I took a look at the fuse list inside the fuse panel and it appears that there's a 75 amp (!) fuse that's used for the reverse lights and other things, including the onboard computer. Since my computer is working fine, I don't think it's the fuse. I don't want to disconnect the battery to find out for sure. I've kinda been putting this off until the next service.

POST 4Original post

I found it...Here is a DIY on Renntech http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7162

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great - thanks for the help!

POST 6Original post

I changed mine a few months ago - it was a simple job. The one thing the DIY dosen't mention is that if the car is on ramps you will get some tranny fluid draining out of the hole after the switch is removed. Not a lot - but something to be aware of.

POST 7Original post

I have also replaced my reverse light switch. Hardest part was lifting the car. Once you can get under it, plan on about 5 minutes to complete the work. I lifted all 4 corners of my car, so I never had an issue with fluid leaking. Kris
