Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Good god, if the car is not perfect, CPO'd, washed with water imported from the Alps, you guys run like hillbillies from a education.

My guess is that you payed close to $50k for it, and for that kind of money, you want it to run-right.

But my question is how did you NOT notice this on the test drive or how did your PPI miss it???

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Today after the car spent the night in my heated garage, it's far easier to get into reverse, but still not perfect.
Trying to pull in the driveway for the first time in this beautiful car (with 30K miles), and it will not go into reverse?! I push a little harder, trying to get it to drop in, and I hear an awful grinding noise. Every other gear works just fine.
I immediately called the (very) reputable Mercedes dealer who sold me the car and they agreed to fix the problem. But can anybody suggest what I should insist on them fixing or checking? If this problem is clutch or transmission, I'm sure neither is an inexpensive fix.
I think I have 3 days to change my mind on this deal. Should I try and return the car??
you just got the car and already a big problem.... maybe just return and find another one.... what kind of warr will they give you on the car? what's the history of the car? etc.... hope it all works out well for you....
Also,
For piece of mind if you keep it, make them pick up part of the cost (if not all) of an exteneded warranty. You will sleep much better at night.
(assuming you have not already paid for one)
RB
probay a loose shifter cable, may have had the trans out for a clutch or oil leak and somoen didint clip the cable in.
I wouldnt worry. car goes forward = clutch ok
revers gear blown out all of a suddon not likely
cable not cliped in = very likely
TJ - Brad (99firehawk) is a service manager/advisor (not sure about his exact title) for a Porsche dealership. He is very knowledgeable and forthright with his advice. He has helped many of us here resolve issues with our cars.
However, if you are uncomfortable with the shifting situation, then Giovannis advice to "return it and tell them you will reconsider buying it after its fixed" is not a bad option. You may also want to tell them to have a Porsche dealer look at/fix the problem.
Did you have a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) completed on the car? If not, I would have that done prior to re-purchasing the car.
Thanks for the suggestions. Today after the car spent the night in my heated garage, it's far easier to get into reverse, but still not perfect. I'll drop it off in the morning and try and negotiate the extended warranty. I'll make sure it goes to the Porsche dealer and that the cable shifter is given a close look.
I'll post an update as soon as I hear something. Reading these this morning and looking at the beautiful beast in the garage makes me feel much better!
dont' trust extended warranty and those bastards may decide not to cover your issue. i'd return it.
didn't you test drive the car? have it fully inspected b4 buying next time.
What about the old first-gear-to-reverse to stop the input shaft? Maybe the clutch wasnt all the way in? All the manuals I recall that I have been around do not have syncros for the reverse (all ancient), does the Porsche tranny have one? If it doesnt, makes sense about grinding in reverse, that is the nature of it.
DID YOU GET A PPI DONE? Assuming you did, what did they say?
It's a tough call, but to me, it's kind of like a pet. If you can get your money back, I would do it. You haven't bonded to it yet, if it's sick right away, take it back.
If you end up with a lemon, there isn't much you'll be able to do. My guess is that you payed close to $50k for it, and for that kind of money, you want it to run-right.
Brad, I'd go with ubertech
FYI...the BEST service advisor I ever had was a former tech that moved to service advisor and he knew his ****, which is crucial. Keep up the good work
I guess that is better than a "knuckle dragger"
Well, as much as I hate to admit it,
I have to agree with Dell (man, I REALLY do hate it when that happens!)
Ubertech
is perfect.
I believe you have 3 business days to return, right? I would let the MB dealer fix, or try to fix it - before the 3rd day. If you don't get a satisfactory resolution, or if they wont fix it before a week from Tuesday, I would return it.
Could be something really simple, but I remember when the clutch was going on my 944, reverse was hardest to engage.
Good grief, listen to you ladies - "RETURN IT!" I'd "RETURN IT!" "Send it back!" "Aaaaah!"
You bought it from a reputable dealer, they'll fix it, and off you go. Good god, if the car is not perfect, CPO'd, washed with water imported from the Alps, you guys run like hillbillies from a education.
The cars are awsome, just get it fixed. Then post pics.
