Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Assuming no major issues, what do you spend a year for maintenance?
I remember how much I spent when I had my 944 (always hitting PA potholes and throwing the wheels out of alignment!) and I'd like to see what I'd be in for with a 996.
Note: this
isn't
a scientific study! Just some typical examples will be fine for me. And I consider you guys typical!
Thanks.
tom
i put 6K mile on my 996.
i service it one time every year. one minor, then one major.
if you do it yourself, it's really not that much.
if you do it in the dealer or indy. then $300~500 for the minor. $800-$1200 for major.
Daily driver, right now without the facilities to do much of my own maintenance so at 24000 miles per year it's adding up: a couple of services at probably ~$1000-1500 combined, a couple of sets of rear tyres at $350ish per tyre, and a set and a bit of fronts at $280ish each, plus alignments. It's a little hard to separate out track and SSCC expenses, but I figure on roughly $0.30 per mile before tax, insurance, depreciation and purchases of gadgets/toys, made of 12.5c for gas, 11.5c for tyres and alignments, and the balance for maintenance. It's enough to make me wonder why OPEC doesn't buy a rubber company to complete its domination over me!
I have an 02 996 cab, and put about 15K miles on it a year.
On average I spend $125 a year on maintenance, with $600 every other year on tires.
I DIY the maintenance.
I use the money I save with the DIY maintenance to buy other toys.
^ Tom..DIY-ing is very easy on these cars. If you don't feel like gettin dirty, take it to an indy and keep all your service records just incase you need to make a warrenty claim.
As far as alignment...if youre going to play kissing cousin with potholes then ur aligment may suffer...but you'd have to be especially talented to knock it out of whack on a typical sunday drive
996 is a daily driver so I budget $2 - 3,000 a year. I have always budgeted this much to drive P cars daily. If I don't spend it one year I always know it will catch up in the future. They are dependable.... on this subject
2.5 years of ownership. (my2000 put about 6-7k miles on it - now sitting 50k. still on tires @ purchase (had them throw in new rears @ deal)
$500 dealer visit (inspect, oil change and alignment) month 1 of ownership.
$175 indy oil change - year 2
$370 road force bal and alignment (this week)
out of norm
$270 fix of airbag light common on 996 (replaced driver side seat belt buckle) 6 mos ago.

I actually have been getting about 24,000 miles out of a set of rears, and 48,000 out of the fronts.
I attribute it to proper inflation, alignment, and superior driving technique. I usually out AutoX the local "tire shredders" by simply being smooth.
I use Michelin N1 Pilot Sport Rib 285/30R18s in the rears which cost me $257 each, and $25 to mount and balance.
Thanks, that sounds like yet another reason to switch from Pirelli to Michelin in a month or two. As for superior driving technique, well I'll just have to keep working on that!
