Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, I am a Porsche newbie and just recently purchased a 99 C4 cab from my brother. The car runs great but there is a problem with the rear tail. It does not activate when it get up to freeway speeds. The light on the dash for the rear tail is also illuminated. I checked if the rear tail motor was good and when I apply power to the motor the tail activates. Has anyone else had a problem with their rear tail? Hope you guys can help and this forum has helped me learn a lot about Porsches. Rob C.

POST 2Original post

How do you know that it doesn't come up? It's not visible in the rearview mirror. You mention freeway speeds - it doesn't deploy until 75mph.

POST 5Original post

Unless you've got the top down and someone leaning out the back you won't see or hear it deploy. Have someone tail behind you and get over 75, then see if it deploys.

POST 6Original post

The original poster stated the spoiler light is on, this means spoiler malfunction....he doesnt need to see it.....

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the spoiler light is "on" on the dash. What will cause the light to go "on"? I had someone tail me at 80 mph and the spoiler does not come up. I will get photos of the car up soon. It was raining this past weekend so no photos. Sorry. Rob C.

POST 8Original post

I can see mine in the rear view mirror when it comes up.

POST 9Original post

The back of the cab is just high enough to not be able to see it when it's up, even when stretching out of the seat to try and see it. I missed the light on part early. When I first start the car the tail light stays on a few seconds longer than all the other lights, but it has always gone off. Probably something you'll have to have looked at. Check around before taking it to the local dealer. I took mine to Sunset Imports when I first bought it to have a few things checked out and it was basically a waste of money. I found a local indy mechanic and told him my concerns and he nailed everything on the nose for less than half what Sunset charged.

POST 10Original post

I can't see mine...99 C4 as well.. My wife was driving behind me and saw it come up so I know it works. Though would be cool if I could see it too . thanks, Amir

POST 11Original post

i think you have a problem. can u try to deploy it manully?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

pl-are you talking about the button located on the fuse control cover that deploys the tail? If so no, I can not deploy the tail. I have tried hooking up the tail motor to direct power and it works fine. When you deploy the tail manually does the light on the dash illuminate?

POST 13Original post

in normal condition, the light should come on briefly when you start moving the car. once your speed exceed 5 mph, it goes away; if it stays on, you have a problem.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

pl-So how do you deploy the tail manually?

POST 15Original post

the button located on the fuse control cover was what i meant "manually" maybe time for a TACO wing.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Trust me the taco is looking awfully good right now. An ideas on how to turn off the light on the dash if I do go with the taco.
