This is not a probability of success.

On other cars I've installed Brembo big red calipers (essentially the same caliper) that appeared to have no clearcoat and the paint alone was extremely durable.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I however think that it's a real shame to drive around in such a nice car with corroded calipers and I'm curious to know why you are not willing to spend the money and get it fixed.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, so the clear coat is peeling on the front calipers of my '02 C4S. I've read the other posts and know it's fairly common. Car is out of warranty and I don't want to spend the money to have it taken care of. So my question is - what will happen if I just let it go? Will the paint eventually peel as well and then rust/corrosion issues, or is it strictly a cosmetic thing? TIA

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I appreciate your input, but it doesn't really answer my question. So what will happen if I don't get them re-sprayed?

POST 5Original post

It's only cosmetic and will not affect the brakes performance. I however think that it's a real shame to drive around in such a nice car with corroded calipers and I'm curious to know why you are not willing to spend the money and get it fixed.

POST 6Original post

If your not going to take care of the car, sell it and buy something that no one else cares about either...

POST 7Original post

Spend $30 to $35 and 4 to 5 hours of your time and repaint the calipers yourself. Here is a link to the "painting calipers" mod I started about a year ago. There are DIY tips and a lot of pics from me and others that did the mod after I started the thread. While you are at it, you could also repaint the "Top Hats" too, but that DIY in in another thread (do a search on "top hat"). https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/254971-weekend-mod-red-calipers-pics.html

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, didn't realize that folks would get so worked up about this. I don't intend to neglect the car, as it is a significant investment and I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I guess I didn't make myself clear - at this point, only the clearcoat is peeling in a few small areas, there is no bare metal exposed. I guess I'm asking what happens after the clearcoat peels off? On other cars I've installed Brembo big red calipers (essentially the same caliper) that appeared to have no clearcoat and the paint alone was extremely durable.
