THe week after my RMS went and was repaired trouble free by my local OPC.

I'm considering purchasing my first p-car, probably a '99 model.

Since warrantydirect no longer sells an extended warranty for an early model '99, can anyone recommend another aftermarket warranty?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm considering purchasing my first p-car, probably a '99 model. However, the talk of engine failures and various problems with these early model cars has me spooked into getting a warranty. Since warrantydirect no longer sells an extended warranty for an early model '99, can anyone recommend another aftermarket warranty?
I would take the $1500 it will cost you and place the money in a good mutual fund and odds are that you will come out with a profit by the time the 2 years runs out on your extended warranty. However, if your worry keeps you awake at night then the $$$ are worth the peace of mind. Good luck in your search and find a company that will not take your money and go out of business taking both your money and peace of mind with them to St Martin.
I just talked to my local P dealer about a warranty for a 2003 Boxster I just got for my girl. Without trying to push too hard to get an exact name, I came away with really no answer. He said there are some good ones and lots of bad ones. Hmm, not sure where to go with that info. I too would be interested to see if there are any warranties out there that seem to be worth their cost and will be honored by the dealers, etc. It could be wishful thinking, maybe such an animal doesnt exist.
Dealer advised me as a quick screen to make sure any company you are looking at is licensed to sell in Calif. They have very strict laws regarding such offerings (as opposed to FLA for example). Should say in the brochure if they can sell in CA.
He suggested Prizm (?) out of Colorado.
warranty direct has been amazing for me. They have paid promptly and my dealer (Paul Miller in Paramus) has been very happy with their cooperation. I am not affiliated with them in any way other than being a satisfied customer.

While he may-be right, if you have a catosrphic engine failure, and you have to pay $20k for a new engine, you may want to hunt this fool down and KILL HIM DEAD!
I recommend Warranty Direct.
Always get good, long warranties with cars and laptops!! Nothing else!
Make sure you read the contract and know what type of warranty you are buying. I looked at a ton of different companies and decided not to buy one. You really need to do your homework on this subject.
Try searching for after market warranty it has been covered.
The thing you've got to remember about warranties and insurance, is that the folks selling it are in it to make money. Profit. Therefore, they figure, on average, that it's going to cost less to repair your car than you will pay them in premiums. If all cars and laptops broke as often as some people would have you believe, then we couldn't afford to buy insurance for them.
However, if you are unfortuante enough to have a car that blows up the engine or a laptop that loses its screen, then you will wish you had a warranty.
I concur with what Rountreed said; if you need the peace of mind, then get the warranty. If not, invest the money and on average, you'll come out ahead.
Also, I suggest searching the archives for people who have complained about after-market warranties. That should be a great clue as to companies to avoid.

I may be a fool you want to hunt down and kill but I did exactly what I said and paid 0 out in repairs and made a 25% return on my money in oil stocks. You are correct in that this would not cover a dead engine but the price for that is closer to $12000 than $20000. As it has been said warranty companies make money or they go out of business, invest in the wrong one and either way you are a loser, invest in the correct one odds are you will be a loser. In the end do what helps you sleep at night, this fool sleeps fine. Best of luck again.
Hi,
I have the OPC waranty on my 98,000 mile 1999 C4 cab. Reently renewed it for 725 GBP for 1 year for peace of mind. THe week after my RMS went and was repaired trouble free by my local OPC.
The policy also covers porsche asistance recovery if needed.
In my opinion it is a personal choice, i prefer to set myself a budget and not worry about major failures.
That aside apart from the RMS i have had various boxster and 911 for last 4 years with no other issues apart from servicing.
Anyone know if you can still get extended warranty on your car even if you already bought it?
Also, here are some links I found.

Anyone ever deal with aaautowarranty?
I read the fine print of the warranty.
Forget about the aaautowarranty coverage. I read the fine print.
Section - notes/exclusions
3. Coverages - max payout per vehicle is $3K per engine and $2k for transmission.
5. Exclusions - "This product limited warranty does not apply to...911, 928, or 930 Porsche"
I have Vehicle One covering my 996TT. FYI, insured by GM finance (so it won't just close up shop like some...). I have it for big problems....it is bumper to bumper....the fact I bought it means I'll never need it.

I had warranty direct for my wifes Mercedes C230K. It paid out a couple times for some small things, $1k total, and we got some $ back when she sold the pos. Would definitely go with them again.
Not sure where you can get coverage on any P-car for $1500. I have done lots of searching and the coverages range from $2700 for my 01 Boxster if I decide to keep it up to $5k for a 97 turbo. Between the MB my wife had and my old LR Disco II we had $25k in warrany claims and owned each car a little over 3 years. I do not think these vehicles would have been any different for the next owners. My next car will have a warranty, be it factory or be it aftermarket.
I went to their site today and plugged in my car: 2001 Carrera 4, all wheel drive, 36,000 miles. It came back and said no warranty was available. I didnt continue on to see what the reasons were. I did find that it would link me to another site, owned by them, that does "older, high mile cars!!"
Sorry,
Lousy web presence...but it is VehicleOne (one word). They sell in California, btw.
Car=2002 996TT 6MT.
I paid 2400 for 4y/60k above/beyond my car's 16k at purchase. Their phone is [phone removed]. I have not had to make a claim yet. The high end dealer I used in Boston likes them...stated he had needed to use them on ocassion in his prior life running a big Cadillac dealer, and felt they were the real deal. His words were something to the effect that they were insured, and so would be there unlike a bunch of other places that had just closed their doors taking people's cash with them.
Not cheap, but 4 years and 60k
more
miles on my car was fantastic for my peace of mind. They also pay by credit card to the service place and you can pick the place of your choice (dealer included). That sealed the deal.
Please check on your state's issues, as the contract had state by state stuff in it.
NOTE: I changed the miles...it really is 60K more miles over the 16k on the car. One needs only follow factory service recommendations. Oil q 15k and such, I plan to do oil probably at 7.5k intervals...... Did more reading...they reimburse you and you need to get approval for all work FIRST. So, you are a bank to them for a few days...still, things on these cars could be pricey.
FYI. I just tried to get a quote from Warranty Direct on a 02 w/50k miles.
They sent back an automated response that said they will NOT provide a warranty on any Porsche that is out of warranty.
FYU:
I have warranty direct bumper to bumper on my 2002 c2, they only sell warranties in car that are NO more than 4 years old and that have less than 50k miles.. I Paid around $3200 for 4 years or 85k miles..
