The first set of mufflers I modded and installed on my car were 3.4 mufflers.

The brackets I have now (3.4 mufflers to a 3.6 engine) can just be installed on my modded 3.6 cans.

Unfortunately, my FisterD mufflers (3.4) were swapped for 3.4, so all I had to do was swap out the brackets from one set to the other.

Suggestion
When I bought my PSE a few years ago it came off a 3.6 so it had these brackets, and I had to use the 3.4 brackets off my old exhaust.

That is why I am saying he can use his current muffler brackets because the three studs on his current brackets already match up with the holes in the support that bolts to the engine.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hoping someone can help me with this question.
I have just purchased a set of 3.6 cans from a fellow Rennlister and these are currently being modified to the PSE/FisterD bypass configuration. These mufflers came without any brackets, just the muffler cans.
My car is a '99C4. It has a replacement 2003 3.6X51 engine, but is using the original 3.4 mufflers that were on the car. The shop which did the engine swap had to order different brackets to mount the 3.4 mufflers to the 3.6 engine.
Now, I want to mount the modded 3.6 cans on the 3.6X51 engine. I am told that I will need different "triangular" brackets to do this. The Rennlister who sold me the 3.6 cans thought the brackets I have now (the ones attaching the 3.4 cans to the 3.6 engine) might work.
I am trying to find out if I need different brackets before I start the muffler swap, to avoid downtime with the car jacked up.
If I do need different brackets, does anyone have a set?
Thanks, hope this is not too confusing.

Unfortunately, my FisterD mufflers (3.4) were swapped for 3.4, so all I had to do was swap out the brackets from one set to the other. Lots of rennlisters have gone from 3.4 to 3.6, so maybe they will chime in to tell you if they fit or not. GL Rickker.
3.4 and 3.6 muffler attach points are the same. However, the triangular bracket that bolts to the engine attached frame have different bolt spacing between the 3.4 and 3.6 engines. Bottom line, you need the engine mounted frame support and the muffler attach bracket to be the same I.E 3.4 or 3.6. Cans can go either way. Hope this helps.

I have a set of the brackets for 3.6 cans sitting in my work room. When I bought my PSE a few years ago it came off a 3.6 so it had these brackets, and I had to use the 3.4 brackets off my old exhaust.
The part numbers of the brackets I have are 996.111.237.02 and 996.111.238.02. Just looked up the current retail price on Renntech and can't believe it, Porsche lists these at $422.02@. I think the price has doubled in the last year of so.
In any case, they are in great condition, no rust, etc., just some dust from sitting around. They are yours for $300 including shipping if you want them.
wow!
if I read this right (and lord knows I dont do that very often) you can take your new mufflers, hook your old brackets to them and put them in the car..........right?
Rickker,
I had an '04 996 with 3.6 mufflers. The first set of mufflers I modded and installed on my car were 3.4 mufflers. I removed the muffler brackets from my 3.6 mufflers (circled in the diagram below) and used them on the 3.4 mufflers.
Since those brackets currently fit the hangers (#17 & #18 in the diagram) simply swapping the muffler brackets should work for you. Just remove the two bolts from the hangar (yellow arrows in the pic of the mufflers) and move the bracket to the modded muffler.
The connection to the muffler cans is the same for both 3.4 and 3.6 cans, the difference is in the pattern of the three studs on the brackets and the support that bolts to the engine. The pattern for the 3.4 brackets and supports is different than that of the 3.6. Don't ask me why, seems to be very arbitrary, but they are different. Price of these brackets seems to have gone up just like the price of a PSE which used to be about $2,000 and is now over $4,000. Crazy!
Dharn,
That is why I am saying he can use his current muffler brackets because the three studs on his current brackets already match up with the holes in the support that bolts to the engine.
.... or am I missing something here?
Ed, you think they will fit? Oh, @#$%^&*!
That makes feel really good, especially coming from the guy who buys things for his car that don't fit!
Sorry, I just HAD to say that!
Thanks guys, for all the responses. I am away from home right now, and just had a quick look at your information. Will try to digest this when I get home.

Now that I re-read the original post I think you are right. When he put the 3.6 X51 engine in the car the shop reused the 3.4 mufflers and had to order new brackets to fit the 3.6 supports. If that is the case then the new brackets should fit the mufflers as there is no difference in the mounts to the mufflers, only the pattern of the studs that go to the support on the engine.
Any one else need a set of the newer brackets, I have them.
Here is a link to a thread on Renntech on the cost of the PSE. The new MSRP is
$6,156.45!!!!
Unbelievable, don't think they will be selling many of these in the future. Old price was $2,168. Apparently Porsche is now making them out of precious metals or something, I am sure that they would not just raise the price arbitrarily, not Porsche!
By the way the price of a 3.4 is over $14,000 now, a 3.6 X51 is several thousand dollars less. Thanks, Porsche!
OK, I am back home, and have read all your posts and looked closely at the posted diagrams and photos. I understand and agree with the conclusions from Tim and Doug. The brackets I have now (3.4 mufflers to a 3.6 engine) can just be installed on my modded 3.6 cans. This is good news.
Thanks all. Will report back when the mods are done and the mufflers swapped.

BAWHAHAHAHA!
Yes you did, but since you didn't include pics and diagrams ....... well, you know how we are about pics around here!
Besides that, Rickker probably knows that you bought a GT2 wing to "fit" your N/B car.
yea I can see how "I will sell you mine for $300" could be confused with "take your new mufflers, hook your old brackets to them and put them in the car"
I would give credit there too
