Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at purchasing a set of tires/wheels for the track. Found a set up that looks pretty good, but I am a newbie to all this and don't know if this set-up will actually work on a C4S: Tires are Continental Sport Contact Wheels are the 18" Carrerra 5-spoke... front: 235 40 zr18 on 8" wide wheel with 57" offset rear: 265 40 zr18 on 10" wide wheel with 58" offset They are coming off my buddy's Cayman S, he wants $1000. Price is right, but you guys might have an idea as to whether or not a good idea. Thank you for any input!

POST 2Original post

I think you'r better off getting hollow turbo twists with the 11" rear to give you more rubber to the rear. The 18x10" rear with 265mm rubber doesn't seem wide enough, though that will help the car with getting more oversteer than the 295mm rubber.

POST 4Original post

LOL I hadn't noticed that. wow.. low-rider style eh?

POST 5Original post

I'm all for track wheels and tires. However, you should purchase wheels with the right offsets for your car.

POST 6Original post

The stock wheels and tires worked very well for me,...if you can help it, leave it as is. Then after a few years of DE's (milage may vary) you may want to consider changing to lighter wheels (not necessarily needed, but obviously can't hurt), stickier compounds with the appropriate brake and suspension mods.

POST 8Original post

when I first clicked on this thread, I was thinking that sometimes I wear Vans sometimes I wear chuck taylors, since I don't have any fancy driving shoes yet.

POST 9Original post

Hey, I've worn Vans for driving. They work pretty good. For tires, I run my street combination - Sport Technos shod with Bridgestone PP's - at DE's. No complaints, but I'm not an aggressive driver. I aim for smooth inputs and a slight but consistent amount of tire squeal around corners. The owner's manual specifies the wheels - diameter, width, and offset - that's right for your car. Unless you have unusual insights into suspension setup I see no need to second-guess a bunch of German engineers.

POST 10Original post

$1000 with tires are a great price for 18" Carreras with tires, assuming they are OEM and not replica. That said, the Conti SportContact isn't really an aggressive tire, and unless you're normal tire is an all-season or something they're not going to be much of an upgrade. Add to that that the rear is narrower than stock and I'd say they're not too attractive. What's your stock setup?

POST 11Original post

C4S is all wheel drive and you have to be careful on the circumferences. Front and rear have to be the same. The Cayman S rims and tires that your mentioned is not going to work. The rear tire is 3' more in circumference. My thought!

POST 12Original post

JMO, you are better off to pass on these for DE. First the wheels are the wrong offset and 2nd the Contis are good street tires but that is about it, worthless on the track. $1000 seems like a good deal but if it does not suit the purpose it is not worth it.
