Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, I've owned an 2003 Boxster for the past 3 years and have loved it but have never been on this site before today. I'm planning to purchase a '99 996 with 27,000 miles that is in excellent condition for $37,000. The car has records, a good story and a potentially scary story. This car received a new engine at around 5K. Is this a good or a bad thing? Any insight would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Welcome - no doubt you will really feel the difference when you move to the 996. The price on the car you're looking at looks a little high. Depending on which options it has, this car should be below $35K easily. I paid less than this last year for a similar car. I would not worry that much about the replaced engine. It was likely replaced due to multiple RMS failures or coolant / oil intermix. As long as the current engine is solid you should be fine. Get a pre purchase inspection at a reputable indy shop or dealer. Good luck
